Anime vs. Tokusatsu

Tokusatsu = Anime

Both sides use similar formats except one is animated and the other is live action.

Then again...if the series is established as a tokusatsu...then an anime can supplement it. However...it's rare for tokusatsu to have animes. Then again, they're either parodies or cameos.

If it's anime...I suppose a live action can supplement it...then again...

So FIST OF THE NORTH STAR really is something to check out eh?.
Yes, it is. And you know my tastes, Shaun. I don't recommend anything I don't think is worth it.

Congrats. You caught Michael's attention to this thread. Seriously, why did you have to make a thread about this?

Just saying, but seriously... :redface2: No offended to you, Keith. Really.

FR, please. That's not helping.

I don't watch anime so i don't want to say anything bad about it or else people would be calling for my head *runs for cover*

But you know what, tokusatsu is tokusatsu and anime is anime and at the end of the day, its up to the fans what they want to watch and support ... Yeah, i know the "Anime is better than toku" or "Toku is better than anime" argument will go and on but who is gonna stop it ?

Now, yes, I know this is the "style" that they are headed towards. That's not a bad thing. What's bad is that how fans try to imitate this themselves, either in animation or drawings. When they draw people, they cover up the fact that they don't look realistic with the excuse of "it's Anime style". Thus, we get guys with spikey hair, huge cross eyes, triangular mouths, overdressed, and unproportional. Truely hurts on the artist's perspective.

Or it could just be some of us like drawing in that style? I'll be the first to admit I don't draw the most realistic people, but it's not because I can't (God knows honors art class saw to that!) It's because I like working in the style that I've developed over the years. It's my style. It appeals to my tastes, and above all when I draw something I do it because it's fun and I enjoy drawing, and if someone else likes it, that's a bonus. No offense, but I feel like this is aimed right at me because that just about sums up my way of drawing people, minus a few things.

Anyway, I just agree with mattcomics. He put everything I would say into much better words.

i only like anime that has playing games in it. (no video game anime)

Like Yu-Gi-Oh, Beyblade or Air Gear. i also like Dragonball z and Bleach.

but that's it. i'm more into Tokusatsu and Drama

Same here more into Liveaction, was a animefreak until summer last year, igot tired of anime so i starded to watch drama's, i already watched toku but if it werent for toku i probably never watched drama's.

I stil watch Naruto and Bleach some how i cant stop them.

Im shocked seeing this thread today :O_O:
In one day, it reached 6 pages.

Back to the topic:
I've been a toku fan since Den-O. It's been a short time but I love watching it. I've been looking for Sentais & KRs that I missed, esp Magi, Deka & Hibiki.

But to me Anime=Toku. I both love them. But I'm more in toku these days.

I've been following anime's I've started: One Piece, Bleach & Naruto. I hate downlaoding it (coz it gives less space for toku dloads). Hence I'm waiting for it to show on local Tv & locally dubbed. I've just finished PPGZ today, locally dubbed.

In short, I watch anime on tv and dload toku. And I love them both.

I've gotten this sometimes with my own work!

Art is a matter of taste. I've taken interest in drawing in manga style since the mid-to-late 80s before appreciating other styles. Nowadays, I draw American cartoon/pop art style (Bruce Timm, Stephen Silver, Darwyn Cooke, Faruk Cemalovic, etc.), with tinges of manga (Gou Nagai or Jirou Kuwata influenced). Hell, I just find cartoon styles more fun and appealing to work with!

Most of the time, the best criticism I've gotten is that my characters look stiff. That I can accept, and am trying very hard to improve on my art dynamics. But I get a bit annoyed when I'm told that my drawing style doesn't look "realistic" enough. I've grown tired of this "absolute realism" bullshit. (Some use "realism" as an excuse to be "hard-edged".) But sometimes (and more recently), I've even gotten "if it's not totally manga-influenced, it sucks." That really pisses me off. (Just like the "if it's not from Japan, it sucks" stance many people have taken these days.)

Some people just can't see the forest for the trees.
