3) The way the Candroids can show up en masse for cheap CG spectacle is offensive. It indicates their disposable nature in-series and out-of-series is clearly meant to try and goad children into buying lots of the same one. We only ever see one of each Memory Gadget and they're relatively unobtrusive.

It helps that they are portrayed largely as Shotaro's helpers, to compensate for his averageness. Philip and Ryu are badasses so they have one each. What does the use of Candroids say about OOO? I have no effing clue, their depictions seemed largely arbitrary in the first two episodes.

OOO's is a show of excess. They're beating that into us early.

Yeah. I kind of appreciate that someone might dig spectacle for the sake of spectacle, but for me Toei's CGI is not really good enough to enjoy on that level. I need some sort of narrative level to draw me in to get over that.

It's like how I can't enjoy a mecha show for the fights unless I'm seeing some crazy-good animation or the fight choreography is telling an interesting story by itself. Just how I'm wired, I guess.

At this point, I have to say I'm still enjoying OOOs... but pretty much purely for the cast.

Anhk and Eiji play off each other well and, so far, most of the supporting cast has been unobtrusive or genuinely cute (though I'll have to wait until it comes time to dive into them more and they have more focus episodes to form a full opinion on them).

Cake Guy... is a problem. A BIG problem. I blame the actor for that one. It's obvious he's supposed to be an Owner-type (dude who knows what's going on but is kinda strange) but the differences between them are why one works and the other doesn't.

For one, Owner's laid back delivery of his crazier moments help mitigate the wackiness to a degree and it also helped that the tone of the show overall was lighter and more able to support such moments.

Cake Guy... is an intrusive dose of wackiness and that's all the actor's decision to ham it up as much as humanly possible. A guy baking cakes as a hobby while calmly (or sinisterly) explaining the situation would still be strange... but I could see how it might work.

Instead, this guy has decided to jump all over the place, screaming stuff at the top of his lungs and DRAWING INFINITY PLUS ZERO all over his tables. Considering how straight-faced everyone else's performance is, it really stands out as scenery chewing in a BAD way.

The costume... I like OOOs alt-forms a LOT better than its main ones. This is mostly because the unified colors do not clash as much as the chaos of four different colors trying to vie for your attention at once.

Also, his Rider kick is really flipping weird. (Why do his legs become grasshopper legs?!) Then again, Joker Extreme was really weird looking the first time we saw it too.
