Disney has releasd the first trailer for their upcoming film Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. The 90-second video gives fans a chance to get to see some of the new characters that will be debuting in the movie, including the lead role of Jyn Esro, played by British actress Felicity Jones.
Rogue One is set before Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope and tells the story of how the Rebel Alliance first got their hands on the Death Star plans that they use to find a weakness in the huge battle station. It will feature some characters who have previously been a part of the Star Wars franchise, with an image in the trailer even hinting at the appearance of Darth Vader, but also a host of new faces. The cast includes the likes of Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn, Riz Ahmed, Donnie Yen and Forest Whitaker.
Set for release on December 15, 2016, it is the first in a series of anthology films that Disney is planning on releasing. When they purchased the rights to the franchise, along with Indiana Jones and other LucasFilm properties, they announced that in addition to a new sequel trilogy they would create several stand-alone films. These include Rogue One and two untitled entries that feature Han Solo and Boba Fett as the primary protagonists.
The first of these will release May 25, 2018 with the movie focusing on the bounty hunter hitting cinemas at some point in 2020. Meanwhile, Star Wars Episode VIII, directed by Rian Johnson, is planned to release worldwide on December 15, 2017.
