Freaky Friday 2 under development

Freaky Friday 2 is now under development as confirmed by Jamie Lee Curtis on her Instagram. 21 years ago Lindsey Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis played the role of  Ana Coleman and Tess Coleman. A teenage daughter and her career oriented mom who don’t get along.  They experience a body swap and experience  how hard each other’s life is making them closer when they finally got free from the curse.

Lindsay Lohan is currently experiencing a renaissance in her career, and one of her hit movies finally has a sequel. Years ago, her movie “Life-Size” with Tyra Banks got a sequel, but Lindsay Lohan was not able to commit to the project, so Tyra had to come up with a different story. Fans have been asking for Lohan to star in a “Freaky Friday” sequel throughout the years, and perfect timing seems to have finally arrived.

Freaky Friday 2 announcement

Lohan was only 17 years old when she did this movie.  Now she is 37 obviously her character Anna Coleman is not a teenager anymore. So in the next movie she will be a mother and stepmother. The leaked plot of the sequel is  that Anna and Tess will experience body swap again but instead of each other, They will switch with  Anna’s daughter and stepdaughter.

Trivia:

Interestingly, the 2003 version of “Freaky Friday” isn’t the original rendition of the film. Indeed, Lindsay Lohan’s portrayal is a remake of a 1976 movie that featured a teenage Jodie Foster. Moreover, this timeless tale received subsequent remakes in 1995 and 2007, showcasing its enduring appeal across generations. Notably, a musical remake graced screens in 2018, adding yet another layer to the film’s rich history. It’s fascinating to see how “Freaky Friday” has evolved over the years, inspiring various adaptations across different genres. Additionally, the Katherine Newton horror movie “Freaky” pays homage to this classic, further solidifying its cultural significance. Furthermore, Netflix contributed to this legacy with “Family Switch,” a spiritual successor starring Jennifer Garner, which resonated with audiences seeking a modern twist on the beloved premise.

It's expected to focus on Tess' role as grandmother and Anna's role as mother, with both women claiming they have it easier than the other. Of course, the switch flips again!I can't wait to see this movie again because I like the prior one so much! Among my all-time favorite movie!

What's the point of a sequel if the first one was a good standalone and already well done? I don't understand the point of reboots, reimaginings and remakes if it's just going to live in the shadow of the original.

Freaky Friday 2? Count me in! Lindsay Lohan's return to the big screen is long overdue. I remember watching the original when I was younger, and it was such a fun movie. It's awesome to see how they're updating the story for a new generation. Switching with her daughter and stepdaughter? That's definitely a fresh twist. Can't wait to see how they tackle the challenges of parenting from a whole new perspective.

I'm not sure how I feel about that. Sequels can be tricky, especially when the original is such a beloved classic. Lindsay Lohan's return is definitely intriguing, but I hope they have a solid story to back it up. Swapping with her daughter and stepdaughter sounds like it could be fun, but it also feels like they're straying pretty far from the original concept. I'll reserve judgment until I see more.
