LucasFilm Address Star Wars Battlefront Controversy

The controversy surrounding microtransactions in Star Wars Battlefront II has grown to such an extent that LucasFilm, the studio in charge of the Star Wars franchise, has now released an official statement. The company has told The Washington Post that they support EA’s decision to remove the paid features temporarily as they try to solve the issues.

Star Wars has always been about the fans,” Lucasfilm stated, “and whether it’s Battlefront or any other Star Wars experience, they come first. “That’s why we support EA’s decision to temporarily remove in-game payments to address fan concerns.”

This may not be the first time that someone outside of EA may have intervened in the controversy. According to Venturebeat, Disney executives may have directly contacted EA chief Andrew Wilson to urge them to pull the microtransactions. This wouldn’t be that much of a surprise considering how Star Wars is one of Disney’s major properties and they will be looking to avoid any negative attention ahead of the release of The Last Jedi.
