As Supergirl ends in Season 6, Superman will be back in primetime.
One down, more to go! After ending Arrow, the founding series of the Arrowverse. Supergirl is going to end as a series at Season 6 the next year in the year 2021. The Melissa Benoist lead series is one of the major shows of the Arrowverse.
This show has a peculiarly rollercoaster Journey because it started as a higher budget primetime show on CBS. The Season 1 ratings were decent enough for a cable show but too low for free tv. It almost got canceled, but CW rescued it.
From filming in New York, The show transferred production to Vancouver, Canada, as a cost-cutting on Season 2. Making the show loses lead cast members like Calista Flockhart because she can’t work in Canada. Despite the budget cuts, The move to CW spawn multiple seasons and crossovers with the Arrowverse.
This show catapulted the career of Melissa Benoist as one of the faces of primetime, and she open doors for female lead superhero shows for the CW. She also met her husband Chris Wood on the show when he was added to the cast to play Mon-El.
Supergirl managed to spawn a Spin-off, with Supergirl’s cousin Superman. CW will make a remake of the 90’s primetime show Lois and Clark. It is a great irony because, in the comics, Supergirl is a spin-off of Superman.
Lois and Clark will be about Superman and Lois Lane’s married life as parents of two boys. Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch will be playing the title roles. It will be very different from DCEU’s Henry Cavill superman because it is going to be less dark and more colorful and family friendlier. Tyler Hoechlin started as a guest character in Supergirl and his portrayal of Superman is well received that people demanded to give him a series of his own.
