Reports from CNBC started speculations that Disney might purchase DC comics after the merger of Warner Media and Discovery.
This Disney Monopoly is getting disturbing. August 2009 is the year when Disney Purchased Marvel. They did it intending to get the market of little boys and adult men. Many fans oppose it back then because they thought it will censor Marvel’s more adult-centric content like Deadpool and Marvel Zombies. Marvel’s action did not disneyfy the content of Marvel except from Big Hero 6. Marvel remained to have some creative freedom with their content and MCU made the Geek Culture mainstream.
Now the talks about Disney purchasing DC become strong because Warner Media had a merger with Discovery to form a new company called Warner Discovery. AT&T the parent company of Warner wanted to be out of the entertainment business. The reports from CNBC speculate that Warner Media as a whole is for sale for bidders. Disney, Amazon, and Netflix. I don’t know but I do not want Disney to buy DC because it will be the end of the rivalry. Rivalry makes an industry special. Look how Professional Wrestling lost its appeal when WWE purchased its rival WCW. Professional wrestling only experienced a resurgence when AEW rise as a rival to WWE.
For Justice League working with The Avengers sounds cool on paper but this will make the comic book industry smaller. MCU might be doing well but the sales of Marvel comics had been dropping because of the attempt of marketing it to markets that don’t read comics. The Merging of Marvel and DC will ruin the rivalry that keeps the industry alive. I rather see DC comics ending up with Amazon because Amazon has a better track record on making Superhero content and the Comics library can be sold with their services. There was a crossover between DC and Marvel back then there is also the Amalgam universe and they are not that good. Cannibalization of the industry is not Good.
