Tomb Raider Sequel Movie Now In The Works
We’re just as surprised to be writing this as you are to be reading it, but the Alicia Vikander Tomb Raider movie is getting a sequel.
There was a scene in the trailer where Lara was in a gun shop, being offered a familar pistol. She grabbed another, held them to the camera and said with raised eyebrows, “I’ll take two.” This turned out to be the very last shot of the film. It was an origin story, with heavy emphasis on the days before Lara started doing anything interesting.
Who really asked for this? China, we suppose….when foreign tickets were pulled in, the first film netted over $274 million. If domestic sales were all that mattered, it would not have broken $57 mil. If anything, the new Tomb Raider gave us a new appreciation for the Jolie films — they may be cheesy in places, but at least stuff happens.
The forecast looks better for the sequel, though maybe that’s just our unquenchable optimism. Amy Jump has been hired to write the script, and she is well known in the UK for her action movie scripts, including Free Fire starring Brie Larson, Cillian Murphy and Armie Hammer. Theoretically, the new hired talent should deliver a more interesting picture.
The Tomb Raider sequel is still early in development and currently has no release date. But maybe this time we’ll see Lara shoot things with her new pistols, huh?
