Disney+ Is Very Impressive
Rare is the entertainment service that actually nails it right out of the gate. True, Disney has a ridiculous amount of resources at this point, but money can’t always buy you competency. We were ready to laugh at Disney+, the behemoth’s attempt to muscle into the streaming market, but….based on their presentation yesterday, we’d say they got it right, and we have little to complain about.
One of the few downsides is that Disney lied about having every single movie and TV series available to stream…..at launch. All that stuff will be there eventually, though, within one year. There will be quite a lot to digest come November anyway; this is the opening library:

That’s just from the library. Disney+ has tons of new content both at launch and on the way, such as the Marvel spinoff TV shows covered here earlier. The Simpsons will include every single episode from the first 30 seasons (except one) and hopefully with the option to watch in 4:3.
The price is one of the best parts. Disney+ could have easily been $10 a month or more given what they’re offering, but it’s an extremely competitive, consumer-friendly $6.99. Sign up for a year and the average cost per month is even lower. Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Video have steadily been raising their rates — this is the slap in the face they need.
Unlike Netflix, that price covers resolutions up to 4K. Unlike Hulu, that price contains no ads interrupting your movies. Unlike either of them, you can download movies and shows to watch on the Disney+ app whether you have an Internet connection or not. The (infinity) gauntlet has been thrown.
Disney+ launches November 12, on just about every device in the world: Apple TV, Roku, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Chromecast, smart TVs, PCs and mobile devices.
