The Librarians To Be Resurrected At CW — But Without The Librarians
You’ve got to hand it to Dean Devlin, the creator of The Librarians — he knows how to stay employed. After producing the first Librarian movie for TNT in 2004, his production company Lightning Entertainment has remained busy for almost twenty years, first through sequels to The Librarian, then with their biggest hit Leverage, then with a “Librarians” series, then with the return of Leverage on Freevee, and now…more Librarians. Except this time, things could be a bit different.
The show will be called The Librarians: The Next Chapter and serve as more of a reboot, instead of a continuation of the previous Librarians series (which wasn’t that long ago). Most of the characters will be new, including the protagonist, “a Librarian from the past who time traveled to the present and now finds himself stuck here.” He’s distraught that the castle he once called home has been turned into a museum, and in his dismay accidentally releases a wave of magic across the globe, forcing him to recruit a new team of Librarians to clean up his mess.
Why a bunch of new guys? What was wrong with the previous cast? Devlin won’t say, but he threw the audience a bone by promising one member of the previous team might show up in the pilot to “pass the baton.” Eh, that’s not enough.
If that sounds curious, this is curiouser still: the series is being produced for The CW. The same CW that just threw away all its genre shows and committed itself to Canadian imports and sports for senior citizens. Won’t something like this be out of place? And how can they afford it anyway?
Guess we’ll see what’s really happening. There’s no word on when we could be seeing this “new” version of Devlin’s show.
