Mortal Kombat 12 will be titled Mortal Kombat 1
Mortal Kombat 1 has been announced, and yes, that is the title. Technically it is Mortal Kombat 12, but it is a new reboot and timeline. When Mortal Kombat 11 ended, Liu Kang became the God of Time after he defeated the Goddess of Time, Kronika and the sorcerer Shang Tsung.
Mortal Kombat 11 Aftermath ending
So He rebooted the Universe and created a new Timeline that is supposed to be more peaceful. He also became the God of Thunder after Raiden sacrificed his life. Many Mortal Kombat characters we know will be reborn in this new era, but not in the way we know them. The change in environment, society and history will turn them into different people.
Based on the trailer, Mortal Kombat 1 will set its story during “The Great Kung Lao,” not referring to his hat-wielding cousin but his ancestor with the same name. We have no information about the Great Kung Lao except for the fact that he became Earth Realm’s first champion. We will finally witness the first real Mortal Kombat tournament.
Since this Universe reboot is set before the Mortal Kombat, we know, expect a lot changes. Kitana and Mileena are on this game since Edenians have long lifespans. Unlike the Last timeline, where Mileena is just a clone, She might be raised with Kitana as sisters in this one. Scorpion and Sub Zero don’t seem to be enemies anymore. Johnny Cage is confirmed to be playable but I do not know how he will work for the story.
Liu Kang eradicates many villains we know, making it a more “peaceful” timeline, except for Shang Tsung, who remains a threat and likely retains memories of the past timeline. We don’t have gameplay footage of full matches yet, but Fatalities are back, and they look gorier than ever. If you pre-order the game, You will get Shang-Tsung as a free DLC character.
