Scarlett Johansson Talks Black Widow In Civil War
“Pick Your Side”, it’s the line that is most associated with the Civil War storyline, as both heroes and villains had to choose whether they were going to side with Tony Stark or Captain America. In the upcoming movie of the same name, many of the heroes we’ve met so far in the MCU are finding themselves in that mode of whose side they are on. For Black Widow, a character that has been under some controversy as of late, her position may not be as simple as one things. Actress Scarlett Johansson tells Entertainment Weekly that just because we see her on Iron Man’s side in the trailers and promo art doesn’t mean it’s her stance.
Johansson stated: “I think when you find her in Civil War, she’s looking to strategize her position, putting herself in a place where she is able to let the powers that be fight it out or whatever amongst themselves. She’s always a little bit on the perimeter so she can have a better perspective of what’s really going on.”
In fact, Johansson sees her character as a mediator of sorts, ironic as it sounds. “You know, I think she understands where everyone is coming from,” Johansson says. “And none of it really matters to her, you know? There’s a bigger problem at hand and she’s, I think, strangely, kind of the mediator. Which is not exactly how you would imagine her to be. But I think she really does see both sides of the coin and I think her strength is that she’s not personally involved.”
Will Black Widow’s loyalties sway? We’ll find out May 6th when Captain America: Civil War comes to theaters!
