Captain America: Brave New World is going to be the first Captain America film without Steve Rogers. It marks a turning point for the franchise. It will be the first Captain America movie without Steve Rogers (played by Chris Evans), who retired in Avengers: Endgame. Taking up the mantle is Sam Wilson (played by Anthony Mackie). We last saw this character in the miniseries The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, where he operated under the hero name Falcon. However, with Steve’s retirement, Sam sheds his former alias and inherits both Captain America’s name and iconic shield. Captain America: Brave New World focuses on political issues, much like Captain America: The Winter Soldier. It’s obvious that Brave New World will explore similar themes to The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, which makes sense since this is Marvel’s first movie with Wilson in a leading role.
Liv Tyler returns as Betty Ross in the upcoming Captain America film, a character she originally portrayed alongside Edward Norton in the 2008 movie “The Incredible Hulk.” Her return begs the question: how will she feel about Bruce Banner’s apparent romance with Black Widow, depicted in Avengers: Age of Ultron? It will also be interesting to see how the filmmakers address Betty’s absence from recent MCU films. Meanwhile, Harrison Ford steps into the role of Thaddeus Ross, originally played by William Hurt in “The Incredible Hulk.” This recasting sparks speculation: could this be a sign that Ross might be taking the path towards becoming Red Hulk, a formidable villain in the comics?
Captain America: Brave New World Trailer
Thaddeus Ross, now the US President, seeks to redefine Captain America. In the trailer, he proposes to Sam Wilson that the title be transformed into a government-controlled position. During a White House event, Wilson thwarts an assassination attempt on the President by a mysterious figure, speculated by fans to be George Washington Bridge (played by Giancarlo Esposito). The film explores the pressure Sam faces as Captain America. A scene underlines this with Ross’s remark, “You may be Captain America, but you’re not Steve Rogers.” This captures the essence of a protégé stepping into a legend’s shoes, feeling the burden of expectation while striving to prove his worth. The trailer’s highlight is undoubtedly Sam wielding both the Captain America shield and his signature robotic wings. This innovative combat style signifies a Captain America unlike any before. We also get a glimpse of a new Falcon, presumably Sam’s partner, ready to take flight. Captain America: Brave New World hits theaters on February 14, 2025. While some may express reservations about a new Captain America, the film promises a unique evolution for the legacy.
