Nintendo Announces That Yokai Watch Is Heading West!
Though at times it may not seem like it, Nintendo actually has numerous other franchises that make their mainstay in Japan, and most times never crossover to our shores. A great example of one that almost didn’t is Fire Emblem, and to this day there are some entries in that franchise that we can’t get (legally, or in the usual way).
Today though, Nintendo has announced that one of the mega-popular franchises in Japan, Yokai Watch, is heading west. When we say mega-popular, we mean it, as Yokai watch is not only a video game series, but a manga, and an anime show. So it coming here is a pretty big deal. Oh, and it’s made over $1 billion dollars in profits from its merchandise, so there’s that too.
Now, what is Yokai watch you ask? Well…
“For those unfamiliar with the franchise, Yo-Kai Watch centers around a young boy who lives in a world populated by Yo-Kai, mysterious beings that can’t be seen by the human eye. The main character has a special watch that allows him to befriend the Yo-Kai and summon them to fight other Yo-Kai.”
So in some ways its like a mix of Pokemon and other classic anime staples. Which makes it easy to understand why it’s so popular.
At present, there is no release date or window for when Yokai Watch is coming to the US or other countries.
