As far as I know, Power Rangers really doesn't have the biggest following in Japan, and I've always read that a lot of Japanese fans just see it as overkill.

Really? I remember reading somewhere that it was fairly popular. In fact, some PR seasons were liked better than their Sentai counterparts.

Lost Galaxy comes to mind.
