Choujuu Sentai Liveman: Final Review On a Scale 1 to 5 Bio-Motion Busters.
Characters, Heroic

I'm going to say this: While there are motivations enough for everyone, Liveman often turns into the Red Falcon Show.
Jou has horrible luck, and his most memorable moments involve stupid inventions and poor romantic choices.

Megumi is a punching bag. Any time they want to show how tough a brainbeast is, they'll have it beat up Megumi, to the consternation of the others. And any time a story calls for someone to fall in love with a guy, guess who?

Tetsuya and Junichi are just there. The amount that they actually do after their introduction is next to none.
Colon, however, is a fun character.

Rating: 3 Biomotion Busters.

Characters, Villainous
I do like that each of the villains has a different focus for their evil genius, to a point.
One of the interesting things here is that they didn't stick to gender roles for the villains. Beauty Beast Kemp uses magical girl attacks, while Mazenda is all about artillery.
However, out of all the villains there's only two that I wind up liking. Ashura and Obler.
I like Olber because I'm a sucker for redemption stories. And I like Ashura because of how often he confounds the other geniuses. His arc is also pretty amazing.
Mazenda, Kemp, Butchi, Gildos, Bias and Gush are all pretty bad overall.
Rating: 3 Biomotion Busters.
Story

Eh... There's some good stuff in here, wrapped in a blanket of drek. I like the idea of the heroes and villains knowing each other on a personal level. I like the constant theme of redemption and the refusal to take that option. But the theme, the concept of "Life" is just too big for what they're try to do.
Rating: 2.5 Biomotion Busters

World-Building

Number of locations that matter: The Quarry, Academia, Brain Base, Gran Tortoise, Gou's Church.
Of those, locations that have emotional impact: 3
Rating: 3 Biomotion Busters.

Character Design

The Liveman costumes are pretty plain, all told. The real winners for character design are Fear Beast Kemp, Mazenda and Bias.
Rating: 3.4 Biomotion Busters
Special Effects
Knowing what the special effects were like back then, I have to give them credit for a job done somewhat well.
Rating: 3.5 Biomotion Busters.

Music

Bwahaha, you're kidding right? The Opening and Ending are pretty catchy. But I know my music. The theme that plays when Live boxers show up? 60's Batman.
2 Biomotion Busters.

Final Score: 2.9 Biomotion Busters
I'm ambivalent to this series. It's not the best I've ever seen. It's not the worst. It's just there. Like any member of the Liveman team not wearing red.

I love Liveman's BGM, but Falcon and Dolphin's songs are pretty much the only ones I like on the soundtrack. Ooh, and Live Century is pretty cool, too. I never could stand the Live Boxer song...

And you meant Kemp, Mazenda, Bias and Gash were "bad-ass," right? Of course you did.

Gash and Ashura are badass. Machine Mazenda is just silly overkill, and only Fear Beast Kemp and his Brainbeast form are terrifying.

And worst of all, there's absolutely no brainbeasts with a good design. If you show me a picture of a brainbeast, I'd have to do a reverse lookup. None of them were memorable.

How can you not like Kemp? He was really bad ass, especially when he turned into Fear Beast Kemp.

As for the story, I think it is one of the better ones. The opening episode is the best in sentai ever imo. I also really like the plot towards the end; when Bias is getting rid of his doctors one by one.

Also, the music was pretty good for a sentai. Shima Daisuke and Mori Megumi did quite a good job there.

I think their songs are the best songs on the soundtrack, and they needed to do more. Other than Shima's three songs and Mori's one, the only other song I like is "Live Century." Forget Koji Kaya, they needed to have Shima and Mori do more songs! It's weird how they usually have whoever does the main themes do a majority of the soundtrack, but Shima only did ONE song other than the main themes -- I wonder why that is.

It is rather unusual... but I agree... I would never say no against more Mori.
