Ultraman (1966) - Talkback

I highly doubt the Japanese ones have the amount of pixelation due to compression that the ones available here have.

While I’m not sure how BCI’s version compares with Tsuburaya’s official Japanese Region 2 DVD release, the picture quality seems on par with the Ultra Seven Region 2 DVD set (which I used as a comparison).

That says they don't know how it compares to its Japanese counterpart. >_>

So you can honestly tell me that you don't think them comparing the '67 series Ultraseven to the '66 series Ultraman, less than 6 months in difference, is a bad comparison? Honestly? :eyebrow: Don't just say no to say no.

Sorry to tell you, but the quality is actually so well done that it's on par with TPC's release official release of the series on Region 2 DVD. Many have reviewed it to even have better audio than the Japanese release.

Not that it was the same as Ultraseven.

It depends on how it was done, just because the source footage may be bad, doesn't mean the restoration will be. Take Toei's DVDs for examples, many of them are just the old releases transferred to DVD, Tsuburaya actually cleans up the footage and tries to remaster them.

Yes Tsuburaya has and is going through remastering processes for their shows. And it's noticeable. You can grab some quite cheaply now. 20 buxxx a DVD for recently re-released stuff , such as Ultra Q , Ultraman and Ultraseven. I hope they go through the entire Ultraman catalog with reduced price releases. Toei on the other hand , yes, unfortunately shovels their old stuff out 16mm-->DVD and it shows. But don't fret, I'm sure they'll have a remastered versions of their stuff ...eventually and $$$$ it up

The problem is that they're not usually subbed. And as I added before, you need a regioin-free DVD player, and then there's the fact as I already stated that they're not subtitled. That's why, despite BCI buying from Chaiyo, I still recommend people buy Ultraman when they see it in their local video and online stores. They do have beautiful transfers, and are very nice to watch and own.

TPC isn't making it any easier for American fans to enjoy their films and series, in America. They don't bother putting subs even with their most popular films. I enjoy TPC, but that's sad. :disappoin
