Toei and Youtube

Guess what? Just cause we know a bunch of people on a forum who like toku doesn't mean toku is popular in the states. This fanbase is pretty small. When ever you talk about Sentai in public do people go "Power Ranger's is Japanese?!" or do they go "Sentai? I been knew about that ****!" I think dvd sails would do pretty bad here. There would be no profit in bringing the dvd's here.

Then why the hubbub over the Youtube stuff. If the profit margin in the states is so low, then why do they care?

Okay, fine, not illegal. But they are perfectly justified to remove them if they want to.

But why should they care?

Cause, you know, if I made a successful TV show and I saw some d-bag put it on YT without asking me and it was completely within my right to remove it, I'd get pissed off and remove it.

It's totally theirs. Who are we to tell them what they can and cannot do with it. We're not even contributing to their ratings, nor are we Japanese children. So that's like double-"they give a crap about us."

Oh wait? What we're doing is illegal? then I guess I'll have to go out and pick up a copy of the Shinkenger box set and...

Oh thats right, its not here, becase WE CANT GET DVDs IN THE STATES.

Seiously, I just dont see how Toei can see a fanbase so willing to view their material that we're willing to get it through any means necessary and decide that those people aren't worth a North American release. Or at the very least English Subtitles on releases they make. And then they turn around and pull the **** off youtube, saying "NO! You can't have it!" Its...its stingy is what it is. I dont think I've ever seen a company so stingy with their material. Hell, Power Rangers is in 10 or 15 some odd countries. Hell, look how good Dragon Knight is doing over there, but they dont have the common courtesy to put good subtitles ons their DVDs for their English speaking fans?

You cant deny us your material, and then punish us when we want to actually find a way to watch it anyway.
They can and they have. There's two things at work here. One, they have the rights and they're protecting them for possible license domestically. Two, they don't feel like hiring a translator to put english subs on DVDs for a mere 6,000 users (how many downloaded the last episode of Double from TV Nihon plus more for padding). DVDs that most of you wouldn't buy anyways.
Or are you willing to pay $64 for 4 episodes on DVD?

Then why the hubbub over the Youtube stuff. If the profit margin in the states is so low, then why do they care?
See reason one. It takes them very little to have an intern scan Youtube once a day for videos to take down.

Pretty much. We're not even on their radar.

Dude...Japan did show us Toku fans some love. That's why Power Rangers exists. :P

Now...I do want stuff like Kamen Rider W to be aired on, say, TNT or even The CW, but they figured that airing it on American stations, or even releasing DVDs, isn't worth the cost of hiring translators and shipping.

Its their property. We download there episodes for free online, while we TECHNICALLY should be buying there stuff. But.....we don't live in Japan. So we don't have the privelage of seeing the episodes live, or freaking understand them.

What do they expect for stuff over here? They see it online as well. Like Dragon Knight....nevermind that doesn't count cause that was original Toei's Ryuki.

All I am saying is this, I would GLADLY buy series and stuff if they had English Subtitiles. I know the fanbase is small, but still. There are very few places to buy this **** (I use videodaikaiju) But when I emailed my guy, he was like "Dude, half of your request don't come with subs." I mean.....what TV Nihon and others do are FREE. They ask for no money. I understand that Toei wants us to buy the product, but....give me subtitles and you got yourself a deal Toek

The problem is, to me, most of the power rangers seasons that they show are garbage in comparison to the original versions (especially when Disney does them starting from Wild Force &/or Ninja Storm). The only ones that I liked were Zeo, In Space, Lost Galaxy, Time Force, Wild Force, & RPM (even though that I also liked the Sentai counterparts being "Ohranger," "Megaranger," Gingaman," "Timeranger," & "Gaoranger." Go-Onger, I didn't like, though). I hope that the newer season that Saban's bringing out turns out to be good.

I had the same thought as well.

Sure...Looking back at it now, even the original MMPR wasn't really all that great. It had no discernible plot, and I didn't really see much in the way of char development (Save for Billy, but even I'm not so sure). But The matter of fact is, Power Rangers succeeded in creating a fanbase and a market because of what Sentai fans have enjoyed for years: Five heroes wearing awesome looking spandex suits battling evil forces. And whenever the two clash, Sparks fly.

Through Power Rangers, Toei is able to tap into the American Market. Sure you can say that the Disney seasons were horrendous, but that doesn't change the fact that PR has STAYING POWER. If not the shows, then the toys. Kids can just buy those action figures and create their own adventures (I know I did when I was a kid LOL)

They could just block those videos in Japan then?

And it's not just toku. I just noticed digitalrewind's channel has been suspended. It had Digimon episodes, both subbed and dubbed.
