Things I hate About Heisei Riders

I have not bothered with the Heisei Masked Rider shows. Kuuga and Agito were just okay for Rider shows, but since Ryuuki, it completely took a nosedive. It stopped being consistent, let alone fun. It gets worse with each series, and that's just how it's going to be from now on.

You're right about Heisei Kamen Rider, there are "a lot of things" that can be listed in this forum. But I prefer not to list them since I stopped watching them after Agito(listing them will not change the storyline of Heisei Kamen Rider). I never really like the ugly design Kamen Riders since Ryuki. Even Super Sentai series have a lot of ugly design robots since Ohranger(it is still the Sentai series that have the "most" ugly design robots).

Showa era tokusatsu series have better design heroes. The one which I didn't like is Kagestar.

About the nosedive, The rating for Kamen Rider series have been quite low since Hibiki. Teenage school girls are the main viewers of Kamen Rider in Japan (viewers outside Japan doesn't determine the popularity of a tokusatsu series). I remember reading an article about the increase number of Japanese women watching Heisei Kamen Rider and this probably replace the number of viewers among kids. But it is not important for me since I am not a fan of both Heisei era Kamen Rider series and Super Sentai series (except for Turboranger, Jetman and Dairanger). If Bandai and Toei doesn't make any money from Heisei Kamen Rider and Super Sentai toys, it is not my problem anyway. I just hoped the people at Toho will wake up now and start producing new series again this year. That will give the people at Toei a run for their money.

No worries, Iga. What I really want to pull out of the mire of my previous post is that I love the twisty, unfolding stories of the Heisei era shows, and the moral complexity that they bring to the table. I really can't think of a better toku story, period, than Kamen Rider Blade's. Faiz's tale of not-always-good humans vs. not-always-bad monsters was just as compelling right up to the point where they came to the last episode and forgot to give it an ending. Den-O was silly and fun, and while the story was convoluted (time travel will do that), they really made you care about the relationships between the characters, and I loved Ryoutarou's journey from being a coward to a reluctant hero to finding his true inner courage. And the second half of Kiva hooked me and hasn't let go. Hell, even Kabuto was a fun ride, even if the story went from questionable to completely ADD-esque.

I think the lack of motorcycles and Big Bads is more than compensated for in the Heisei era, but everyone's got different taste.

They could care less if you watch the show as long as you buy the merchandise.

Also, the lower ratings (similar to the lower manga sales these days) are generally because people are just doing something else. Video games & whatnot. (Portable media players are replacing manga as the train-riding time-waster of choice)

That's mostly like assuming that that comics are worse now, since they sold a million copies in the 80s and only a couple hundred thousand now. It paints an incomplete picture. I guess I can see that working for you, but you get my point.

What I meant was the fact that every one with a sympathetic baskstory somehow gets killed by the main hero, look at some of Oprhanochs from 555 and tell me you didn't feel sorry Mr.J, the fact is I'm just saying they should try something different then just having the hero kill them because they go into a berserker rage. I just wouldn't mind more twists on some old toku tropes.

But Mr. J was doomed either way. If he didn't get the belt, he and his dog would have died. When he did decide to take it back, Takumi was going to defend the belt, the girl and his life. But I see where you're coming from. Takumi let the pizzeria owner live and the Crab who died due to the BREAKDOWN, so the heroes sometimes let the monsters live if they choose to repent.

I must not have been watching enough shows, then. I just noticed it popping up in some shows penned by Inou, oh well.

seriously, soon enough this is gonna end up in name calling and the arguement of "showa sucked because it had the same story!!" "heisei sucks because it has pretty boys!!" "at least heisei doesn't have groups of boy scouts in short shorts on!!" "well, those boy scouts in short shorts are more manly then the heisei riders!!" and so on and so forth

Well I'll try not to be a complete ass about the things I hate about Hesei Rider series.
Let's see:
-A series that started out promising and awesome at the beginning and half way it just completely forgets what the plot is and starts making **** up and gives a generic (or crappy) ending Ex. Kabuto and Kiva (for me at least).

-A rider series that doesn't even look or feel like a Riders series :eyebrow:
I mean come on! Ryuki, Hibiki? What the Hell? They don't even come close to the words "Kamen Rider"
Now don't get me wrong I watched the entire Hibiki series and enjoyed it :thumbs: but it's not Kamen Rider :170:
Why is Toei such a pussy to try something new instead of slapping Kamen Rider in the title for a potentially new and awesome series?

To me the last time this guy's writing was good was in Agito
Every Rider show after Agito that he worked on went straight to hell :castlerock1:
and he re-uses the same type of plot device and the same type of characters in all of his writing. There's like at least one asshole character in all of his works (Ex. Agito: Hojou, Faiz: Kusaka, Kiva: Nago).

Well those are things that I hate about the Hesei rider series
and whether or not you guys agree or disagree with me I don't give damn

I've seen episodes of Kuuga and Agito. I was still interested that time, because I'm a Masked Rider fan. They're not perfect. At all. But they at least remotely have the Masked Rider spirit. I only saw two episodes of Ryuuki, and that was the last straw. That was where the Masked Rider series completely sold out. Plus, the designs get uglier with each show. They look just like the rejected conceptual designs from the earlier Heisei Rider movies Ishinomori himself did. There's trouble when Ishinomori's company gradually begins to lose control over the franchise. (Also because the company is having an inside struggle over its control. Not good.)

Oh, Toho could make new hero shows . . . when they feel like it.

That is exactly the problem with the Heisei Rider Series. If teenage girls are the primary audience, Toei is alienating their other audience; kids and fans. And the toy sales are going down dramatically. When it's doing worse than Super Sentai is now (which is below even Ultraman and Rescue Force), you know there's problems.

Other than the ratings, it's all personal opinion. Like I stated at the start of this thread, I would rather find fun things about the shows I watch. Instead of complaining about the shows I don't like, I just don't watch them. There is not a thing we can do about the shows in Japan. If you don't like them I am sorry for that, but hating the shows won't change much. Why not watch stuff you do enjoy, and then talk about that?
