The Toku Unpopular Opinion Thread

Ryuuji wasnt really treated as comically old. Although really the old=bad humor trope in anime is annoying on a personal note. I can enjoy young people's idea of fun alright. If they cant enjoy mine, thats their problem.

Also Inga Blink is a yama onna. she cannot possibly be flat

Chest no, character yes

Go-Busters wasn't so bad, but it did highlight Ryuuji as the oldest of the team and make jokes about how he was old and stuffy - more so at the beginning, I think it would have been more significant if changes hadn't had to be made to the show.

It got less grating when Jin joined the team but even he was saying "you're technically older than me".

Since when did Blue become the older and wiser color? It used to be common for the YOUNGEST member (Ako from Jetman, Akira from Maskman, Kai from Gaoranger).

you forgot Ryuta from Bioman and Bun from Flashman in that list. :P back to the question, I think the "Blue is the oldest and wisest" trend started with Renn, though Ryunosuke and Joe weren't portrayed that way. then again back in the old days Blue would some times be the Smart Guy, so it's nothing new.

^ Also Naoki from Carranger

Renn was the sensible/mature one but he wasn't stated to be older than the other Go-ongers - Gunpei and Hiroto were the oldest.

I am just going to say it:

Kamen Rider W didn´t have a good story.

This was a big issue for me and it really took me out of the show because the story is usually what i enjoy the most, and even if W had good action, concepts, characters and what have you, the main story line of the show was incredibly bland and uninteresting.

I mean, all the backstory of the show is very good, i throughly enjoyed the Skull back story, the Accel side story, and i am pretty sure no one loves the Eternal movie more than me, but the main plot was too simple and not very good.

The weekly plots were very well done and the characters helped to carry the whole thing, but the show coud never really build up into something great because the lack of an engaging story and that kept dragging everything down. Seriously, not for one moment i felt interested in Museum and Terror´s plans, and you could literally figure out Philip´s identity from the clues in episode 3 alone, the fact that this "plot twist" was only revealed in episode 38 only made it worse.

I like W, but i don´t love it, and i feel the need to bring this up because now that W´s writer, Riku Sanjo, is wrting Kyoryuger, people are wondering if W was a a one time wonder hit, and so i feel the need to point out that W´s plot wasn´t really good, so if Kyuoryuger´s plot isn´t blowing anyone´s mind you should not be surprised.

Heck, if anything Kyuoryuger´s plot is an improvement over W.

^The thing with Phillip's identity is that the writers for rider seem to be doing with Fourze and Wizard as well, and still expecting people to be surprised. At least the Tachibana thing wasn't obvious

Admiteddly the one thing that surprised me in W was the revelation of Shroud; i was sure that she was Philip´s Mom, but i expected her to be a Villain, so her being genuinely good was a surprise.

Similarly, Emoto = Virgo = Tachibana took be my surprise, again, i expected Emoto to be Virgo, but the Tachibana thing caught me off guard, i expected him to be either a robot or Kengo´s Dad.

Still, i wish these writters wouldn´t be afraid of challenging the audience a little more, juts because your main viewers are kids doesn´t mean you have to treat them like kids.

I love W the plot was amazing. Kyouryu is also damn good. I am loving every minute of it just as I loved every minute of W. And honestly, I doubt you will find that many people that agree with you about W.

1.) I find both W and OOO to be ridiculously overrated. W less so since it had three charismatic leads and some sexy Rider designs, but I found a majority of OOO to be unbearable. I think someone in this thread mentioned how they couldn't view Dr. Maki as a viable threat because of that fucking baby doll, and I 100% agree.

2.) Kamen Rider Den-O is one of my favorite KR seasons. It has heart and extremely likable characters as well as one of the most fantastically unique concepts KR has ever dreamed up. I don't condone how Toei/Bandai milked it to death, but the TV show itself is solid.

3.) Kyoryuger is absolutely nothing more but a soulless, shallow cash-grab.

1. So silly things the villains have make them not good villains? I guess you haven't watched much toku from the past.

2. Cool. I couldn't stand it but cool.

3. There is a ton of "soul" in kyoryu. If I were to guess you loved Busters and thought it was a unique take on sentai? even if I am wrong there, ALL sentai is about a big cash grab. It's what they do with it while they are trying to grab cash.

- All Sentai should always have at least two female Rangers on a team of five. It's not about "creative choices" or whether they're "needed". If stories call for people, they call for women, it's that simple.

This is one of the most ignorant and sexist statements I have heard in a long time. You are saying that any story ANY STORY.. that has PEOPLE in it.. can and SHOULD have a woman in a part. That is just not true at all.
