The Tabletop/Board Games/Card Games Thread

Just out of curiosity, anyone here play or run a Dresden Files game? I love the books it's based on but I'm a bit intimidated about approaching it because if I did, it would mean I'd have to GM and I've never done that before. Gotta get my head together and just do it, but I was wondering what your impressions might be.

I was playing in a Mutants and Masterminds campaign but unfortunately it has to be put on hold for a few months. I was thinking of running a game in the down time to pop my GM cherry. Maybe start with a simpler game like Laser Ponies instead?

The general concensus on 4e, from what I've heard and read, is that it simplifies and streamlines a lot of things from 3.X. It's good in that it makes things less of a headache, but it does tend to limit classes to certain roles. I've also noticed a lot of complaints about making it more WoWish (which is kinda true, I suppose) and that it limits roleplaying options (to which I say if you need mechanics to roleplay, you're doing it wrong). That, and the lore for 4e blows.

I dunno, I like 4e. It's a surprisingly different game from 3.X, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. It's just different.

I'm planning on running a mini-campaign (well, sharing it with another DM/player) this June with 4e, albeit with a different lore. No impressive story changes, just names and roles being changed and rotated.

So, I'm gearing up to run what I think will be a pretty fantastic D&D 3.5 game for my players. I've been trying to run a bunch of gritty, realistic games lately, and as much as I love playing in those kind of games, I lose interest pretty quick when I'm running them.

So, back to the basics fantasy for me. I'm hard at work on world creation. I found a great site - the Cartographer's Guild - that has a bunch of tutorials on how to make badass maps for RPGs and well, I guess mapping out real world places too. Someone there made an alternate history map of California and it was pretty damn amazing.

Anyway, I'll try to keep you guys posted. The real twist of my game is that I'm going to be surprising my players by using their real selves as their starting characters and having them get pulled into the fantasy world. So, the advantage is that they'll start with a lot of skills and knowledge of fantasy games. The disadvantage will be that they don't have a huge mess of skill in the blowing up monsters department. Well, except for Paul. Two tours in Iraq kinda teaches you some useful survival skills.

Cartographer's Guild is a pretty cool site. I've used it on occasion, usually for one-shots where I don't have time/feel like making a map by hand/MS Paint. That game sounds like it'll be pretty fun, as long as there's no "you can't do X, even though you know Y in real life, because of Z" grognarding.

Any Yu-Gi-Oh! players here given Kaiba Corp VDS a try?

It's like Yu-Gi-Oh! online, except you don't have to pay for it

I pretty much gotten rid of all the card games that I used to collect, except for Babylon 5 CCG. Babylon 5 is actually a very fun card game, and I got into it when I became a fan of this sci-fi show, but the problem is that it really becomes more fun the more players you can have, but I can't find players to play it with me. And there are enough factions in the game that you can potentially have more than 10 players all playing at once. This CCG wasn't that expensive to get into unlike Magic TG or those Decipher games, but not many players actually play it. Maybe someday I'll get to play this game with my children.

**** yes, Magi-Nation. There was only one store I ever saw them in, and even then I was only there once while on vacaton, so I couldn't get any cards other than the ones I got at said store. Even still, I loved that game. Hell, I've still got those cards today.

A friend of mine has a massive stockpile of them somewhere in his mom's house. What drove us nuts is that as many cards as we had, there were still whole nations that we'd barely touched. Kybar's teeth being the rarest.

Wow, really? Kybar's Teeth and the Weave were all I could ever find. Well, that and a Core starter deck.

I just wish I could have gotten more cards. So many cool tricks I could have used...

Figured I might Necro-Bump if that's alright

Just found out about this thanks in part to "THAT NEW TOY SMELL", it's an Austrialian VHS Board Game from the 90's called Atmosfear

The first two games (Gatekeeper and Khufu The Mummy) were later re-released on DVD, making the game interuptions FAR more random
