The Tabletop/Board Games/Card Games Thread

To the original poster, I say unto thee: motherfuck D&D 4th edition right in its stupid ear! Ugh. If I wanted to play World of Warcraft, I'd have played World of Warcraft. I tried playing a 4th edition game for a month, with some pretty cool guys that I game regularly with. It sucked balls. It was like playing a video game, just really slow. We found it to be terribly simplistic. The mechanics leave a lot to be desired. If you're tired of D&D 3.5, move on to Pathfinder.

Me and my friends play a 4e game based in the Warhammer universe, and, with some tweaked rules, we all think it's bad ass. It's all in the storytelling I think.

The general concensus on 4e, from what I've heard and read, is that it simplifies and streamlines a lot of things from 3.X. It's good in that it makes things less of a headache, but it does tend to limit classes to certain roles. I've also noticed a lot of complaints about making it more WoWish (which is kinda true, I suppose) and that it limits roleplaying options (to which I say if you need mechanics to roleplay, you're doing it wrong). That, and the lore for 4e blows.

I dunno, I like 4e. It's a surprisingly different game from 3.X, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. It's just different.

I can kind of agree with the lore not being so great, that's why I set our game in the Warhammer universe (I read tons and tons of warhammer novels, so I have lots of source material to pull from.) As far as the roleplaying, I really feel that's all on the player. My friend Tom sucks at roleplaying, and I don't think a different set of rules would really help him. He just overthinks all of his character's dialogue and underthinks his actions. I'm not against 3.X or Pathfinder though.

When it comes to the table top I play one game, and one game only. And that game is: Warhammer 40k. My wallet weeps a little every time my army grows but hell if it aint awesome.

Pic from last nights D&D game. The heroes saved the village and killed the dragon, but got stranded out in the wilderness and had to eat the damsel in distress.

I used to play alot of card games, like Magic: TG, Legends of Five Rings, Shadowfist, and Babylon 5. I've either sold them or dump most of my card collections, except for Babylon 5 and some L5R. I also used to play board games like Settlers of Catan and some Risk, although because my brother & I can't get all the friends to come & play so we didn't play them as much as card games.

Didn't know this thread existed. I have played a lot of tabletop games. Miniature and card games. Miniature: Mechwarrior, Heroclix and Warhammer 40K. Card Games: Pokemon, YugiOh (LONG time ago), Digimon (long time ago as well), Gundam War (When it first came around), and I was getting into the Vs. system before I moved away then lost a venue.

I am actually looking to get back into heroclix and still have my warhammer 40k army, Eldar, and ALL of my mechwarrior games, sadly that game was cancelled.

You know what's a fun game? Munchkin. It's fun when a bunch of us get together and play. Alliances and backstabbings abounds with us.

I remember having a few good laughs with that game.

I played a lot of card games years back. Though the one game me and the people I played with enjoyed most was Magi-Nation. It was criminally underrated and because of that we had a hard time obtaining cards.

**** yes, Magi-Nation. There was only one store I ever saw them in, and even then I was only there once while on vacaton, so I couldn't get any cards other than the ones I got at said store. Even still, I loved that game. Hell, I've still got those cards today.

I wish more people I know were in to roleplaying games, I could imagine myself getting quite in to it. I know people who play Magic TG though, so that's good.
