THE ORIGINAL... Himitsu Sentai Goranger - Talkback

Heh heh my wife is like, "how can you watch this old stuff?" but I carry on... it's fun! That's the best way to describe this show - it's plain, mindless, crazy FUN. No fancy plots, no stories deep enough to drown you. Just sit back, and enjoy.

Not that I don't like deep or fancy plots, it's just that sometimes I just want to sit down and be entertained, plain and simple. You know what I mean?

Kiranger?

Anywho, I have the first 4 episodes in one disc. I got it few years ago from ebay. I watched the first 4 episodes and I thought it was cool. The very first Sentai series ever and I loved the dark tone. Awesome. More violent ever I've seen. :buttrock:

I was very lucky to have seen GORANGER on San Francisco's KEMO-20, as well as a station out of Sacramento (thanks to cable), in late 1976/early 1977, and then in Honolulu in the summer of 1977 (along with AKUMAIZER 3 and ROBOCON). Again, because I saw it as a kid, "back in the day," I love this series -- warts and all. I especially love the main cast, and with Hiroshi Miyauchi, how could you go wrong?

GORANGER actually has a few minor story arcs -- Nichiren Kamen, Tetsujin Kamen, Hinoyama Kamen and Golden Kamen -- as well as the destruction of the Variblune/introduction of the Varidoreen, etc. While it may or may not have worked, according to one's sensibilities, the masked mutants of the Black Cross Army, were an attempt to do "something completely different" from the earlier Ishimori Henshin Hero series. And, boy, were they different. While I liked the idea behind them, some of the masked mutants just don't hold up with adult eyes, others still manage to maintain a certain level of coolness.

Some of the "cooler" (IMHO) Black Cross baddies include Ogon Kamen, Musha Kamen, Doku Gasu Kamen, Tetsukan Kamen, Iwamen Kamen, Tetsu Kago Kamen, Tetsu Gumo Kamen, Tetsubin Kamen, and Tiger Kamen.

That means there are no Kiranger anymore. Kiranger 1 killed himself in real life while Kiranger 2 died in the series. The oldest possible living Yellow Warrior would have to be Denji Yellow at the very least. JAKQ Dengekitai (color pallette of Red, Blue, Green, Pink, and White) and Battle Fever J (color pallette of Red, Blue, Black, Orange, and Pink) don't have Yellow Warriors.
