I don't think there's a scientist out there that doesn't want stem cell research pushed forward, but that doc that goes on Oprah's show (I know that sounds dumb, but dude's got some clout) said that researchers have been having trouble getting the stem cells from embryos to conform to certain organs or body parts. They grow, they just don't grow into what they want them to grow into. There's no way to dictate or direct their growth. So in the future, stem cells might have to come from fully-developed adult men and women, where they're few and far between. Just what I heard.

Unfortunately the closest Tea Party to me was in Appleton, and I could not make the half hour drive yesterday. To answer some accusations in this thread, the point of the tea party is not just to protest taxes. It's to point out that both parties have let us down. All we ask is accountability on both sides. It's not a republican or democrat thing, it's an American thing.

The fact is, Dems and Republicans are corrupt, decietful, greedy, and power hungry. So, we exercise our freedom of speech, before that gets taken away in the name of fixing the economy as well.

Quite frankly, I disagreed with alot of what Bush did. But so far, Obama isn't really doing much better. He's managed to pass a bill that had over 4,000 earmarks, when he promised he wouldn't. Most of America didn't vote for Obama on his own merits. They voted because he was the anti-Bush. But he seems to be another Clinton, which is not neccessarily bad, but it's far from the Change that was promised.

I know he's your Chosen Messiah, but right now I am really not impressed with anything happening in Washington. AIG, Fanny, Freddie. It's an atrocity, and no one will take the blame. Both parties are busy blaming the other.

Buuuuuut..... while the protest you mentioned sounds like and honorable one, you're the only person I've heard say it like this. I think the majority of the people protesting really are fighting white slavery and higher taxes for the rich for the sole purpose of just... opposing Obama.

Well, it's possible that its an Obama thing for them. I'm just speaking for myself. Personally, I really do WANT Obama to fix this country. I'm rooting for him. I'm rooting for America.

Another thing that I feel needs to come back for America to survive is civility. There are people here in our country who have a variety of different opinions, and a host of different beliefs. But that's what makes us different from the Middle East. We can have different opinions, beliefs, religions. But I urge everyone across the board to do it RESPECTCFULLY. Good lord, these are your brothers and sisters you are talking to.

I may disagree with Keith, but I respect him as a learned and intelligent man. Civilised debate has been lost in America, in favor of calling the other side stupid. And when that is the primary argument, it lessens all of us. The free exchange and debate of ideas is what keeps us from going completely off the deep end. It's the lifeblood of a free society.

Now, it is everyone's right in this thread to call everyone they disagree with stupid or ignorant. That's your right. But I challenge you to do better. When you resort to name calling, you have lost the argument.

We have a pretty tight knit group here on HJU, and while I don't post too much, I am happy that we can have discussions like this.

What other people have you heard from other than TV news and those that are Obama suporters? I am not saying this to be dickish, I am really interested to see where you get your first hand information.

I wasn't there, and I am assuming you were not either. So I ask you, how in the HELL do you know what went on at them? If you say "I saw it on so and so news channel" then you still wouldn't have a clue. TV news is one sided to either way it goes fox and cnn. So basically what I am saying, is that you don't know what went on there. Please tell me of you were there, that way I can know you have first had knowledge and not second had badly done news reporting.

When you repeat back what the talking heads on the radio and fox news rant daily, your statements don't really carry much weight. I mean you just repeated back what near every republican talk show is saying with that phrase. You should have tried to describe him in your own words.

IMO the people that feel the need to call people stupid for their personal beliefs probably have issues of their own beliefs to work out. Like the people that may be for obama and call anyone that is on the other side names or toss out stuff like "You are just a Limbaugh clone". I think those people should sit out the debate unless they can come up with a valid way to express themselves.

I agree with you about having discussions like this. I try my best not to attack one side or the other, but some people just feel the need to attack blindly.
