The hubbub over the Islamic Community Center

They knew when they thought up this community center's location that it would piss some people off and cause a controversy. If they did not expect it they wouldn't feel the need to 'build bridges' to begin with.

In other words its deliberate provocation.

Its trolling, plain and simple.

Now with that said the media just made the situation worst than it truly is by giving the trolls attention. Trolls from the opposition too mind you.

Actually from what I've seen the community center is pretty fucking far from Ground Zero.

Secondly it shouldn't matter because in America we're suppose to be the land of the free and brave. Not the assholes that oppress other cultures within our own borders.

We're suppose to be better than that. We're suppose to be the good guys.

It's not provocation. It's people building something for their community.

I completely agree with this post for two reasons:
1. Whoever we were attacked by is irrelevant whether it was Muslims, Jews, Hindus etc.etc. these people were crazy not Religiously extreme, Islam in no way encourages this kind of act so these groups are nuts not Muslims.

2. People find it offensive to build an "Islamic" center near "Ground zero" which is bloody dumb because attack was not passed from Muslims but from a bunch of so called "extremest" Assholes.


So their case has absolutely no relevance to the presidents decision.

Most of my points on the matter have been covered by others. For my part, I just love how the same people who will talk about how Ground Zero is too "sacred" to have Muslims nearby it will also talk about how cities like New York aren't "real America" when pretty much anything else is going on.

As pretty much everybody else in the thread has already pointed out, America is supposed to different from other nations in that it allows and encourages (supposedly) the freedom to choose and practice whatever religion one chooses without fear of oppression, so I guess from a purely Constitutional standpoint, yeah, they can do that. Honestly, though, I think it's an unwise move for the Muslims in charge of the development to do so because it shows a definitive lack of tact, which could potentially go a long way in smoothing over the misunderstandings that have separated Islam and Christianity for so long. If they had chosen to say "we understand why this could sting for a lot of you" and picked another spot to build their mosque, it would have demonstrated that the Muslim community as a whole is sympathetic to America's loss during 911 and that they're willing to put aside their own agenda in order to show reverence to the gravity of the attacks on a lot of Americans' minds. As it is, it's just turning into another battle of entitlement with more than a little bit of bigotry and bitterness thrown in from both parties.

I heard after all the fuss they are trying to find a spot farther away now to build the center so people will stop getting crazy about this.
