Tekken: The Movie - Assorted Fights

I dont know what it is about video game adaptations that just continuously fail to miss the mark. I mean, techniquely speaking, Tekken should be one of the easier ones to adapt. There are no fatalities like Mortal Kombat or special effect moves like Hadoukens in Street Fighter. Most of the fighters use real fighting styles and its pretty much close quarters combat. This should be a piece of cake for any capable action director. I just dont understand. I mean, low-budget productions like the guys behind Street Fighter Legacy can pull it off, how can this be so far off the mark? It's pretty much a bunch of dudes in cosplay doing basic, poorly choreographed sequences that have no life to them. Like I said, can't wait to see how the movie is a whole, should be a good laugh.

The difference is that these independent guys like the ones you mentioned specialize in action production, so they know all of the little important nuances that go into orchestrating a well-made and technically exciting fight scene. Big corporations that finance movies don't. I'm sure the focus on their end is to incorporate as many iconic pieces of imagery as possible to appeal to fans of the franchise, but in the process they begin to neglect all the facets that drew people to the series in the first place. I'm willing to bet that more time was spent making changes to the wardrobe and set than planning and filming the fights. It's not even exclusively the choreography's fault, either, although it did leave a lot to be desired... without a director and cinematographer that knows how to shoot action, so much can be lost in translation that even good action direction can turn out abysmal.

This is very true. But I just can't help but think how much better the movie would be like if they even add a little more key characteristics to teh fighting styles. I mean, make Marshal Law scream like Bruce Lee a bit, give Raven a few ninja moves, give Miguel a freakin Spanish accent, have Yoshimitsu jump around a bit like a lunatic. Man, its sorta like all they saw were screenshots and profiles on the characters and said, "lets go with that". But like you said, Bolt, without proper direction from folks like the Director himself, this movie was doomed from the start.

Marshall Law didn't act like Bruce Lee one bit, I was also dissappointed to see Christie there, instead of Xiaoyu. The guy who was yelling at Jin, is he Paul? Because he looks an awful lot like Bob from the Biggest Loser.

Whoa, and I remembered that people were looking forward to this before it came out. Too bad.

Better than DragonBall too. Ugh, they're making another one.

Just finished the movie and, it wasnt good, but i've seen worse. Definitely could have had potential if it had better direction. The fights were pretty lifeless. The characters were pretty far off. And the story wasnt anything new. But, the game Tekken's story isnt too deep anyway, pretty much centering around family members throwing each other into volcanos. lol But, idk, I feel like this movie could have been soo much better. But yeh, it wasnt TOOO painful to watch. It was more tolerable than the Chun Li movie and Dragonball movie, for sure.

Talking about girls... The one Jin had sex with in the beginning and Christine Monteiro.

Those were eye candy.
