all they really had to do is send him a letter saying hey stop doing that

from what i receive from this action is they try to scarring another customization maestro, that's why they arrest ken-san since he is one of the most popular among them(or let's call it High Profile).

So what are gunpla illegal too now? People tend to sell customized gunpla and actually open up business in hobby shops like that here in Malaysia.

They'd do better hiring him than sueing imo. The Utopia Dopant and alot of his costums is just amazing. I think his W is also better than Takeya's... Why not have him as a limited edition and Takeya as regular? :/

That said, what he is doing is indeed illegal but what about the doujin market?

And CJX is really nice. They're on a roll with the final forms lately after the Decade Complete fail (Kiva Emp, Kabuto Hyper, now CJX)

If he was creating his own characters, it'd be fine.

The problem is he's directly making money off characters created and owned by Toei. That's copyright infringement. It's like selling Naruto fanart or the like. Generally, fanworks must be given out freely or sold for low profit to avoid legal troubles.

Most of the time, copyright holders can ignore such things, but it can get them into trouble when they later try to fight large-scale copyright infringement if they didn't protect their copyright in the first place.

Ken was regularly taking a $60 figure, doing custom work, and selling it for ten times the value, meaning he was making significant profit. That he was doing so publically and on a regular basis means he probably was going to get hit eventually. I doubt he'd have gotten on their radar if he did customs for a small fee over the price of the figure + materials.

doujin market?

Same deal. Publishers and copyright holders will generally let Doujin producers slide unless they start making too much money. Once a doujin mangaka starts making too much money, they need to switch to creating their own stuff, or face the mighty gavel.

CJX's not looking bad, but there's just something missing for me. I can't pinpoint it but I'm suddenly having second thoughts about getting him. The new CJX pictures is good, I like the Prism Beaker, and that they even gave us the Prism Memory. I didn't pick up Stronger too. Even after saying I wanted it a lot. :( If one day I end up a big shot, I'm gonna buy all the SIC that I fancy. D:
