Should Yasuko Kobayashi just stick to Sentai?

I miss the old, spunky Kobayashi who would face a project face forward with an "Why the hell do I have to write for these crap shows?" attitude. Now she just looks at them with a "Why the hell do I still have to write for these crap shows?" attitude.

...

Wait.

The reason Toei likes her is that she toes the line with regards to the merch.

Gingaman had no shortage of mecha/weapons, and she made THAT work. I think Toei keeps making up last-minute merchandise and forcing it in. (It doesn't help that they look awful.)

On one hand Kobayashi wrote Timeranger, my all-time favourite Sentai, and also Gingaman and Ryuki, which I like very much. I also liked Den-O when it was running, until it turned into the ridiculously overhyped franchise-eater it is today. On the other, she wrote Shinkenger. Enough said. And Den-O and Shinkenger are her most recent toku works so all in all I think I'd rather she hung up her pen (er, metaphorically)

My favorite Kobayashi shows are anime and the non-franchise PGSM, respectively. So, I think Toei should stop attaching her ideas to their big two franchises and just let her do more original productions.

Relaunch Metal Hero or something and make it her playground. The results would be interesting without having to compromise her ideas by, metaphorically speaking, always jamming a motorcycle in the train.

She wrote Ryuki? That show was a mess.

OOO looks like it will just be a 22-minute toy commercial. Hopefully she can surprise us all

Personaly, I've always and probably will always have a huge fondness for Kobayashi and her work. Gingaman and Timeranger are two of my personal fave Sentai seasons, Ryuki was almost brilliant until episode 30 or so, PGSM was suprisingly really well-done and I know everyone despises the show but I loved each moment of Den-o and it's wacky comedy.

Shinkenger was a bit of a downer but it was still a well-done season for the most part. the characters stood out and the action was really well-done, better then alot of other sentais have been. I have no inclination about how OOO is going to be like so I'm just going to wait and see. Honestly though, if it turns out to be fantastic, I'm going to do an "I told you so" dance. just fair warning okay?
