as much as I adore this show... if I was given a chance to improve and right the wrongs Inoue came up with, I would come up with these ideas:
1) Gou takes on a human friend's (who befriended Gou and took him in) form after he was killed by the first Magii he encountered on Earth. the rest of the Hikaribito also go through the same thing.
2) Get rid of Rin entirely, because Hitomi has always been promoted as the heroine of the show. why should I go back on my word and be like "Oh hey, she's actually the decoy heroine suckers!"? that's totally cheap.
3) Get rid of that stupid, pointless secretary, as well as those other female characters who served no purpose to the plot. not to mention the unnecessary nudity.
4) Jin is the sempai that Gou aspires to be and he emphasizes on this fact throughout the series until he is left feeling distraught upon finding out that he has become a Kageribito.
5) My explanation for Hitomi's ability to see the Magii and Hikaribito's true form? her father is actually none other than Jin. why did he become a Kageribito? because of his love for his deceased human wife (think Anakin Skywalker), who was murdered by thugs and this drove Jin into madness, which leads to him developing a hate for humans. Obaa-chan took Hitomi in because she didn't feel comfortable leaving her with him.
6) As usual, Hitomi doesn't take a liking to Gou (whenever he attempts to break her out of her shell) at first, but both slowly grow closer and develop feelings for each other. whenever Hitomi is in grave danger, Gou constantly prioritizes her over the lives of others, which mirrors the fate of Jin.
7) There may or may not be a Bigger Bad than Jin, but I've never actually thought that far.
8) The comedy aspect will still be intact.
