Quick bit: the MV for De-Light really feels more like an idol video for Miss Yua here than a music video, but with an actual good song in the background. Also, she needed to be more animated and use her hands more. She looks really rigid.

Bleh, the Japanese always seems to have a weird idea regarding music videos. You can have an award-winning song but make a music video that is out of context, nonsensical and won't really mean anything.

About the series? I've come to the conclusion that Inoue should just be writing comedy shorts instead of trying(and eventually failing miserably) to write a coherent narrative. I've been enjoying the show being weird and goofy up until the point the "plot" showed up and ruined the show for me.

And Inoue, once you've stopped being high and fapping off tropes and plots, tidy yourself up, will you? And never come back to toku.

I was expecting more from her MV because the girl may have a pretty face but she can seriously act when she's given the chance to show it off, but after watching the MV once, I didn't bother to go back and watch it again. I love the B-side song, Kira Kira, even better though.

I haven't heard the full version of that, though. It sounds good from the bits we heard in the show.

Well, it's been a while since I made this thread but it's the first time I've actually had time to say my thoughts about the series.

Final episode was pretty fun. Weird how they changed the villain to the sunglasses dude but his motives were pretty interesting considering how vile they depicted most of the humans (some times). This is something I'll mention later on.

Hitomi helping Gou was a HUGE highlight, because THAT is what I was expecting the series to be like. And then they just have to throw Rin in there again.

Finally, the final battle was cool. Loved the giant mech and the Sentai suits. A great love-letter to Super Sentai fans there. Not the biggest fan of the cliffhanger ending, but it DID feel very Sentai-like - right down to the clip-show end credits.

You see, this finale wasn't bad. But ep. 10 - 12 took the series in a weird direction by introducing Rin. Before it was all about the Hikaribito discovering human life, which this finale captured perfectly. Rin was such a distraction from that. Which makes me appreciate Hitomi's role in this episode even more.

See, this is the problem I have with the series. It's all over the place. It doesn't know what it wants to be. It's a sappy love drama one minute, a horror-porn the next, and then a comedy when it wants to be. When the comedy is the hilarity of the Hikaribito learning about humanity, it's good. When it's breaking the fourth wall left and right, it's NOT.

All the fourth wall breaking relegated to those 2 or 3 big-breasted female characters, which are only in the show because... well, that's why. Seriously, there was no point to them. I strongly disliked the so-called "supporting cast" as they detracted from my enjoyment as they were way too shallow to even be close to entertaining. Having Oba-chan come back after that emotional moment in episode 10 really cheapened it in my opinion.

The show suffers from identity crisis. When Gou and Jin are sitting, talking about how Rin loves him more, they decide to do it in a "old-film"-like style. Which is lovely, but does not work considering that most of the "serious" drama stems from scenes like this. Because of this, it's hard to take any "drama" scene seriously.

The acting, minus Shinkawa's, was not bad but it was overdone. Again, was this intentional? The whole series seems like it could be parody material, but again, it doesn't seem to be the intent of it, especially with the Rin story.

Jin's treatment, as much as I love Wakamatsu, was downright jarring. He starts out being the one who exposes all the horrible things about humanity. It's dark. He's evil. But it turns out he isn't the villain, and his "love for Rin changed him". What is this? It's strange because the amount of teasing they had (for his evil plot, not his goddamn secretary) was interesting but just thrown away at the end. And GODDAMN they think he can be redeemed that easy? Just Rin saying "be friends again with Gou!"? No. What a waste of a character.

I've said this once, but I'll say it again - I HATE THE "RAUNCHY" SCENES. They are out of place and COMPLETELY unnecessary. A LOT of this series is just pointless eye candy. The secretary, again, is not even a character for all I know, just some butt and boobs that they needed to up the sexual tension of each episode.

But you know, for all the things I disliked about the series, it did a lot of cool stuff too. I loved the suit design, it's really fantastic. They are all so varied and detailed, aw man it's beautiful. The fight scenes and special effects were truly top-notch for what I expected. The first episodes with Gou becoming friends with the others was exciting, hilarious, and well, fun. I loved seeing suited heroes doing things normal people would do, like going to the hot springs or playing dance video games, or even trying out natto. That kind of stuff I really enjoyed. Hell, I even liked some of Jin's scenes, such as the one where he fed money to someone. It had a dark message and it hit strong. It was good contrast to the Hikaribitto story. Hitomi was a fairly strong character but I wish she had more to do.

So you know what? I liked the series. It was different and I haven't seen anything quite like it. But at the same time, it wasn't a series I think I'll remember for a while. Maybe just long enough to finally finish the rant lol.

Overall, enjoyable but I wouldn't watch it again. But hey, it was fresh. And that much I appreciate. I definitely wouldn't mind a season 2.

Finally got a chance to watch it till the end. Overally, didin't like it. Too rushed.

No Kiva was one of the worst Rider shows in recent memory. It was an absolute turd.

Character growth: utterly absent barring Wataru going from aspey to somewhat adjusted individiual. But other than that the rest of the character "growth", Kengo going from rocker to hardass that can beat up Nago or Mio going from hating Taiga to suddenly giving her life for him never made any sense and were abrupt changes than seamless transitions.

Phenomenal designs: Multiple instances of recycled monster suits and also of toy designs that couldn't work for the live action or CGI medium.

Themes: its theme of existence between monsters and humans never made sense given the formers intent on using humans as a food supply and the fangires desire to genocide other species. The separation between the 86 and present day generations and how one lead to the latter was never handled well.
Despite this, Kiva is the of the best KR Series ever.
Most of actors are simply brilliant (you hear that from guy, who mostly don't like japanese acting at all) and not just one or two of them, but almost everyone (Yeah, I know Yuri is exception), like best CGI in tokusatsu (only some GARO projects, like recent movies may have toped it), beautiful finishers, awesome Rider/Monster-designs (say, that Saga or Dark Kiva aren't badass) and Tetra-Fang music was the thing, that actually got me into any kind of j-music (and I'm very grateful for this and still like Kiva's music).

Of curse, there were some problems with plot (mostly in second half) and I really hated that poor interaction between some characters. It had so much more potential!

Even with its problems, it's one of the two Rider Series (another one is Double), that I actually enjoyed and didn't find terrible, between the end of Kabuto and the start of Gaim

OSNAP I FORGOT TO CHECK IF SOMEONE ELSE MADE THIS THREAD ALREADY!

It is a tokusatsu called Shougeki Gouraigan. It is a 13 episode tokusatsu series created by Keita Amemiya and written by Tohshiki Inoue. Gotta admit when i saw the names attached I was like oh no but damn the series kicks ass its short sweet and straight to the point.

The Basic plot is this spaceship called the Bunba transporting some prisoners from a place called Chou Shinkai to a place called Land of Exile is suddenly attacked by a powerful demon who causes a prison break and frees its master named Jin and several others. Though the demon is killed and destoryed, Jin decides to unleash an army of 1000 soldiers in 100 days to destroy the Earth. The ships captain, Gou, plans to gather a ragtag group of 4 escaped prisoners with unique fighting skills in order to protect the planet from the impending invasion. And thus is the show that i think is a quick short toku that shows you don't need 50 episodes to crank out an awesome project. This show air last year from October 4, 2013 to December 28, 2013.

I finally got around to watching this. This show is a mixed bag. I really enjoyed the Hikaribito and their misadventures living with humans. That is where the show is at its funniest (along with little things like butterfly props held by "Kurokos" instead of CGI for Shou's first episode). I presume they're all based on folktale characters, since Rai resembles Sun Wukong. Hitomi was enjoyable. The regulars in the town felt like something out of Ryukendo. The Sentai parodies were fun.

On the other hand, the sexual humor was mostly stupid. Is it just me or are most of Mitsu Dan's roles based around sex? The Gou-Jin-Rin love triangle... I agree it's not that great (and Gou's conniptions over Rin get very irritating), but I think it could have worked another way. Say, if Jin had succumbed to corporeal lust for Rin and Gou, with the more "enlightened" mindset of these "higher plain" beings, simply had platonic compassion and took offense at Jin's sin. Speaking of Rin, I don't even understand her. One moment she's happy with Gou, the next she runs of with Jin, and then after her reunion with Gou they act like nothing happened... only for her to leave him for Jin again? Why is this funny and/or drama?

Generally I really hated all the pervert humor with the Hikaribito. It's more childish than anything. In short, I could have done without all of it. Black Condor should stick to playing pool and drinking >.>

As for the plot about coming invasion, what was the idea with that sudden plot twist with the King? And we don't even see the battle? The show just stops with them going into space? What kind of ending is that?? (By the way, the Gouraigan ship is what GokaiOh should have been, instead of throwing in race cars and trucks that pirates are known to drive :rolleyes2:)

Overall, if Gouraigan was just the Hikaribito leaning to live on Earth it would have been a much better show. The other stuff drags it down.
