[SCIENCE!] Water World Found!

The team of badass planet-huntin' motherfuckers at the Harvard-Smithsonian center for Astrophysics have found a rock-and-water planet only 40 light years from Earth.

Check the link here for the detailed story.

This crazy place is thought to be only 6.5 times the mass of Earth, and is thought to be 75% ice and water and 25% rock. For all you exoplanet geeks, that's pretty bitchin' news.

The catch is that this planet, GJ1214b, sits just 1.3 million miles from its star, which is only about five times the distance of our moon from Earth. Luckily, it's star is nothing but a little punk with an extremely cool (for a star) surface temperature, so the temperature on the newly found water planet is only 200 degrees Celcius. Due to some physics stuff with the boiling point of water rising with pressure, the planet's water is thought to be in liquid or ice form, which in my opinion means that there's a chance that there's life there.

Hail Science!:buttrock:

OH HEAVEN YEAH!!!:megarock::megarock::megarock:

Finally a science news that makes me happy.

As much that is good news, its still pretty far away. I mean, it will take many years to get any real physical data from the planet.

damn...badass

they probably found a better planet than this small rock

anyways...wow, kudos to the scholars.

there might be life
