Howard is no where near as big a name as Jackson. IMO Jackson deserves the bigger check, Howard hasn't done nearly enough to start writing his own checks.
not to mention they Replaced him for no reason, but Howard was so good, Cheadle looks... scrawny, no offence to the guy.
Good ****. I was starting to lose faith in Marvel, but looks like they're getting back on track.
I don't see why casting everyone's favourate black "comic book movie" actor is an immediate good sign of anything. It depends on the movie, not the casting.
Marvel will always have a dodgy track record when it comes to movies because they honestly don't want to make movies that make anyone think. Yes, Iron Man's a cult hit that winks at itself and the audience, it's great, I love it, it's cheese and it knows it, but The Incredible Hulk is the better movie because it's more cerebral and grows characters very methodicly using it's psudo-sequel dynamics.
Marvel arent in the buisness of making movies that have some weight and heart to them. Unless you're a big shot director like Bryan Synger, anyone else who wants something meaningful or true-to-form is often screwed (the original version of Daredevil). Marvel CAN and DO pull off good films with all of the above, but it remains to be seen if the current list of projects are capable of being consistently strong with the range of directors or writers that will develop them

Why did Marvel Studios recast Col. Jim Rhodes in Iron Man 2? The surprise announcement that Don Cheadle was taking over the role from Terrence Howard in the sequel (and now The Avengers) left many fans wondering what happened. Entertainment Weekly has an article possibly explaining how this came to be:
Hollywood insiders believe the exit stems from Terrence Howard's difficult behavior on the set of Iron Man. But those with intimate knowledge of the situation suggest a far more dramatic backstory: Howard was the first actor signed to the film and, on top of that, was the highest-paid. That's right: more than Gwyneth Paltrow. More than Jeff Bridges. More than Robert Downey Jr. And once the project fully came together, it was too late to renegotiate his deal. It didn't help that, according to one source, Favreau and his producers were ultimately unhappy with Howard's performance, and spent a lot of time cutting and reshooting his scenes. (Favreau could not be reached for comment, while Howard's publicist says: ''Terrence had a tremendous experience working on Iron Man.'')
"It was the surprise of a lifetime," he said. "There was no explanation. [The contract] just...up and vanished. I read something in the trades implicating that it was about money or something, but apparently the contracts that we write and sign aren't worth the paper that they're printed on, sometimes. Promises aren't kept, and good faith negotiations aren't always held up."
I must ask-
What's this "The Shield" movie they're talking about in the press release? Is it supposed to be something about Fury's organization or something else entirely?
