Power Rangers Samurai - News Thread! (Premiers February 7th @ 8pm/7pm central!)

The reason why it's being discussed is because it was a crossover episode with Power Rangers / Masked Rider that started the ball rolling for the Masked Rider series. It makes sense that people would start speculating that it may happen again.

At this point, no one in the Saban group knows what they're going to do with the footage. It's entirely possible they won't even use it, or that they won't use it till years later should there be talks of Saban taking over Kamen Rider adaptations.

My only concern here is that Toei doesn't seem very respectful of Ishinomori since he essentially banned Saban from ever touching Kamen Rider footage ever again. But then, this isn't really Ishinomori's Kamen Rider anymore.

True. Here's what I think might go down with the Rider footage/In my opinion:

They might just use the footage of the Chinomanako DiEnd from one episode of Shinkenger and recreate the battle from the Decade episode with just the Shinkenger suits, Chinomanako DiEnd, Moose Fangire, and the Eagle Undead.

I'd really love to see Super Samurai-Red hack and slash Chinomanako with his True Fire Slash/if they decide to go that route.

What he said not true. Thier no evidence that the creator of Kamen Rider baned Saban from using the show. This was discussed pages ago. It just a rumor. Thier no quotes were the creator came out saying Saban is baned from doing the series..

Man, I love VR Troopers. Why didn't it last longer?

People claim it's because Saban ran out of footage which is true BUT there was always more footage from Juspon that could have been used for a 3rd season. Plus they could have done some original footage for the series aswell.

I think ratings was a factor. Same for Beetleborgs, if the series continued to stay strong in terms of ratings during Metalix then I'm sure Saban wouldn't have minded raking in more cash by using the Fighting Modes from B-Robo Kabutack & Robotack for 2 more seasons of Beetleborgs.

Saban's Masked Rider... FAILED
Saban's Metal Heroes... FAILED
Saban's Original Heroes... FAILED

Saban is only good with Power Rangers. I'm sure he will stick to this and avoid anything else at this point.

Why are we even still talking a Decade Series? It's not happening. They only bought the team up footage with Shinkenger..

Do they (fans) not realise that the Decade/Shinken episodes were part of the series purchase?.

Saban has had footage he has dropped and hasn't used before. I'm sure since this is the revival of POWER RANGERS the focus will be POWER RANGERS and not crossovers with heroes that nobody in North America even knows or cares about.

It's common fucking sense that nobody seems to be using. I want to throw a bag of dog **** at people on here, RB, and Facebook that are even talking about the Decade/Shinken footage being used in PRS.

Hey, it fits. XD

Wait, don't you mean:

YOU'RE TEARING ME APART, DECADE!!

That would not explain buying the actual footage if your going to reshoot it. Saban is technically going to get the Fangire monster suits anyhow.

So, perhaps the Kurokos are staying? From a tweet on twitter:
Oh lord. I hope it's just for the first episode. That **** got annoying quickly.

I think Saban has to buy the original footage as part of buying the license, in all fairness. Like how they have to buy all of the original scripts even if they ultimately decide not to use them. Just part of the package deal.

I'm curious. How? The use of kuroko in Shinkenger was tied pretty intrinsically into the show's motifs and themes.

I understand that but leave the whole Kuroko thing for special occasions. They appeared every single henshin scene in the series.

The kuroko appearing was part of the point of how the henshin and roll call was shot. Shinkenger is loaded with references to traditional Japanese theater and in such traditional theater (like kabuki), the kuroko appear to move scenery and props around onstage, particularly during a scene change. They're also part of bunraku puppet theater where you'd see them constantly.

The term is frequently translated as "stagehand." They wear black to indicate that you should regard them as "invisible," not part of the story they're telling, just helping move things along. The kuroko appeared in the Shinkenger henshin to indicate that the theatrical, flamboyant part of the show was about to begin.

The kuroko effectively escort the Shinkengers out of the mundane reality of the show's "talky" half and into the heightened superhero reality of a given episode's action-oriented climax. Basically they reinforce the idea that the henshin is in fact a major "scene change." If the villains were winning, they won't be in a minute or two.

If you reserved the kuroko for "special occasions"... well, the entire metaphor breaks down. The henshin stops acting like a "scene change" and you lose the idea of the Shinkengers being escorted into a given chapter's climactic scene. You honestly lose any real reason to use them at all, since in kabuki and bunraku they're going to be onstage very frequently.

This is all Shinkenger, of course. If the kuroko are in Power Rangers at all, they'll probably be presented as something very different (since most American kids aren't going to be familiar with kabuki and bunraku like their Japanese counterparts). I'm also sure PR will drop the kurokos' role in the transformation since it won't make any sense to most Americans.
