Not much love for Drive?

We're talking about shows starring a "super" detective or law enforcement person who works alongside the "normal" police who are often left baffled by events when the hero isn't. How is it an unrealistic expectation to not have said police be seen as complete buffoons whom you'd wonder about how they ever got their jobs?

Shinnosuke IS the police who handles Roidmudes. Everyone not on the SCU are irrelevant policemen to the story who don't have Roidmudes in their jurisdiction. They look down on the SCU because for them, they do silly jobs (and the way they work is actually silly-looking)

For some perspective, take as an example the Hero movie (2007). There, an important plot point is that special prosecutors who handle political corruption cases looked down on the local prosecutors who handle personal cases (which happen to include murder and such). Or a common trope in detective shows were detectives in HQ look down on district detectives. Or homicide detectives looking down on those who handle pickpockets.

Basically, it's elitism, exaggerated. Because the show is already an exaggeration itself. It's been only shown twice so far, but otherwise, Otta is generally the stand-in for an elitist slowly opening his eyes.

The cops in Kuuga and Agito rarely won against the monsters, but they made their best effort. You could respect them. The cops in W, Wizard and Drive are horrendous.

Kuuga and Agito were more than a decade ago. Different audiences.

the big problem with Drive is that its exageration just isn't consistent. If it was sillier it would be WAY easier to accept stuff like the cops laughing like school kids at the mention of monsters. They could have at least phrase it as 'Everything's monsters with you!' as in the person is blaming every crime on roidmudes even when it doesn't make sense to do so.

How is the exaggeration inconsistent? There are only two relatively normal characters on the show (Kiriko and Shinnosuke). Well, probably Shinnosuke's former partner but he's out of the way. One if you count Shinnosuke's motivation swings as weird. Everything else is just exaggerated.

And he's the one who always completes the puzzle, has superpowers, and defeats the bad guy every time. Hence the "super" detective in this case.

I understand that. That's not my objection. It's that for the past few shows, the cops who look down on the heroes seem completely incompetent and frankly plain stupid themselves. This makes them really irritating to watch. If you're going to act superior, at least give the audience a reason for you to act that way. People here hate Tendou for his "superior" attitude, but at least he could live up to it. Otherwise, what is this really but the "playground bully" transplanted into adult scenarios. These may be kid shows, but that doesn't mean the adults must be overgrown children too. (Insert ToQger joke here.)

As for silly-looking... yes, that backpack is dumb.

I'm sure they're really competent in their swindling cases or homicide cases or whatever they're working on. Stuff we're not interested in. That's why it's basically a throwaway scene.

I agree with you. One thing my friend and I have recently discussed was the police in superhero comics and he stated that his major pet peeve was that as soon as a hero is on the scene, the police become incompetent idiots. It doesn't matter what media or era the show takes place in. It's always annoying

I don't understand why should SCU get looked down because elitism?
Their case is something that once threaten world and Tomari make a point that there is so many terrified by them.

It is normal if they put low probability that Roidmude involved. But when all of them just laugh at Otta and even call SCU as freak Squad, it's like they didn't believe SCU at all. I understand it is because SCU is unofficial "special team" but even SCU heaviness app become so popular to people that Kyu can use to locate every slowdown accident.
Maybe it is just way to make a joke but it is weird to make everyone on earth but police put their believe on SCU.
SCU are look so elite but at same time they are not.

There's quite a bit of things that bothers me with Drive, but here are some things that really get into my testies:

-Not having the decency to explain anything about the Roidmude: I can let the whole Kamen Rider identity slide, but why not release any info about them to the public or the police? Oh, it would cause panic... Except the slowdown thing and various sightings of Roidmude is already doing that. Civilian lives are at stake, but this is being kept in the blue.

-Why not create inventions useful for the police and SCU to use: We saw that backpack thing being used to help negate slowdown.... Why isn't this use generally for any special forces? If the couldn't fight, the least they could've done was help any civilians in danger of slowdown. Hopefully, inventions are used more generally in the future.

-Why do the police find the concept of Roidmude silly: Ok, seriously? Despite several sightings, the global freeze happening, and witnesses being there, the police seems to think that roaming monsters is dumb.... Why? There's like witnesses that could've described the events to the police many times.
