[Cartoon] My Little Pony Talkback Thread

I hate "country girls" so because of that I just can not find my self into liking Applejacks character trait, nothing against her but I ca

Pretty sure the Internet and recent history would disagree. Not to mention, it's actually making the internet a nicer place. Undeserved or not, I think it's okay to let this one slide. ^^

Also, "cool to like a girls' show?" Really? Do you know how many dudes had to wrestle with themselves before coming to terms with the fact that they liked something aimed so ostensibly at their opposite demographic? I'm still slowly working some of my friends through the coping process!

I definitely think if this wasn't a show that was aimed at little girls then and plenty of people hadn't spammed the reaction images it would not have been as big on the internet as it became. I mean the MLP craze started thanks to /co/ the same way most recent internet memes come from /b/, and it took weeks of spamming before more people started joining on the MLP craze and like other stuff thanks to 4chan MLP:FiM became on the internet what it is, I say on the internet because we really don't know how well the ratings the show is getting or how the toys are selling. I am not knocking the show, but there are plenty of other shows that are just as good/cute and yet do not get noticed and its not because the show is not as good but because MLP:FiM had things going for it like /co/ spreading it to /b/ and the rest of the internet from there and the show being aimed at little girls so its "ironic" to like it.

I... I don't know. I'm curious as to what shows are getting ignored due to 4chan not noticing them. I was under the impression that MLP was getting all this attention because there just aren't shows like this coming out often. MLP is unabashedly happy and colorful and cute and girl-friendly, but doesn't readily (or purposefully) insult viewer intelligence. Kind of like how Powerpuff Girls or W.i.t.c.h. were (except W.i.t.c.h. was stuck on a channel nobody fricking watched.)

Along with PPG, combing my recent memories offhand, Kim Possible and Totally Spies also ended up being international phenomena and merchandising successes (one due to its snappy writing and likeable characters, the other due to... hell, I have no idea.) For non-girl-aimed stuff, one needs look no further than Avatar, and while that had 4chan backing, it didn't need it to get popular with all ages and genders. 4chan was also hardly the only place to pick up on MLP and spread the word about it, and I wouldn't place the credit solely on /co/ for turning people onto the thing--especially after the first few months.

I mean the MLP craze started thanks to /co/

Ehhh, not sure about that. It's more that /co/'s early MLP content propagated to /b/. If MLP hadn't taken root in /b/, it definitely wouldn't have spread to other forums.

/co/ generates a lot of content similar to its early MLP content for a lot of shows. Just off the top of my head, Adventure Time and Regular Show have similar /co/ followings.

It's just that /co/'s content didn't propagate elsewhere in these cases. I'm sure it was posted to /b/, but /b/ didn't get obsessed with it. Any speculation about why is just that, speculation.

I am not knocking the show, but there are plenty of other shows that are just as good/cute and yet do not get noticed

I can think of maybe two cartoons, ever, that I would compare to MLP in terms of quality and style, Dexter's Lab and Powerpuff Girls. Lauren Faust worked on both of them. I do not think this is coincidental.

I think had 4chan been around in the heyday of Dexter and PPG, they would've become similar Internet phenomenons. Instead, these shows aired when the Internet was much less viral.

well after Marathon the first season via youtube i have to admit that i'm quite taken by the humor and art design of the series and i actually like it, I have to say i relate to twilight quite well since we're both of the geeky persuasion, and fairly well read.

I kinda agree that episode 15 with Twilight trying to rationalize pinky pie's spidey sense powers did come of with the slightest of a bad taste being left in my mouth after it but the rest of the series was fairly solid.

So in closing i am fully willling to admit that i am officially a brony.

For anyone interested there is actually a burgeoning fanart community, here's a few examples

Its not quite as developped character wise and it doesn't have the wealth of background characters fans can latch onto like MLP but its still a freakin' sweet show.
