Lauren Faust said that the title 'Princess' on Celestia is basically corporate meddling. Guess the marketing gurus think little girls prefer 'princess' to 'queen'.

Yeah I get all that, the problem is there is no room to even attempt to rationalize this one. On the show side she is a sun god and her toy is the biggest normal scale pony ever. Maybe when the toy gets discontinued they change her name.

I know it is not likely, but it's not totally outside the realm of possibility. I mean this is Hasbro after all they could very well just change the toy's colors and re-release it as a "new" character.
