Megaman Legends 3 announced!! Updated: It's Cancelled

As sad as it is to see the game go (and I would have like to see it myself) I can't really blame Capcom for this move. Lets face it, outside of a vocal minority, this game was not going to sell at all.

Mega Man's star has dimmed considerably over the years and the Legends series was niche even for that audience. So, while it's disappointing from a fandom standpoint, from a corporate standpoint it makes sense to cut out a money hole like that.

I mean, the only real success story the Blue Bomber's had this decade is Mega Man 9. 10, while not a failure, apparently was a huge step down in sales from 9 once the novelty of the retro style wore off.

Maybe it's time for Mega Man to disappear for a while. Let people forget about him for a little bit before making a big comeback in something.

Why not? Maybe if Capcom actually cared and did actual promotion, people would take interest? Don't you think? Besides, they set unrealistic expectations for fans in the first place. What, did they expect millions to join the Dev Room? That's stupid. Not to mention that there are not that many good original titles on 3DS... at all. MML3 could've gambled on that and become a killer app that would move the system alone. But nope.

And what happened with MML3 was more than just "Oh, just a game that wasn't going to be sucessful". There was a humongous fan involvement. It was, should I say, personal. Fans have all the right to be angry about a product that was promised and not delivered. It wasn't just another line in "to be released" list. It was more than that. It's a PR failure on Capcom's side, if nothing else.

Not to mention that this is probably the end of the line for the entire Rockman franchise.
And if "silent majority" are the kind of people who enjoy crunching 50$ re-releases of fighting games every 9 months, then I don't want anything to do with such community at all.

I really thought it was time for Megaman to bounce back to the mainstream of gaming, I seriously did. But high expectations from the company itself was what killed the project. And theres only a few people that actually care about the gamers and want to make games for them. (Keiji Inafune & Hideo Kojima)

I'm just gonna leave it at that and post this link for fans who want to support MML3, to convince Capcom to give us, the gamers, and their mascot, Megaman, another chance.

Spread this around! I'd really appreciate it!

Maybe a little interest would be gained from marketing but then you have the problem that it's a sequel to an obscure series featuring a character that the vast majority of the gaming public doesn't really care about anymore (as much as it hurts me to type those words) so it's a hard sell to start with.

What, did they expect millions to join the Dev Room?

Given the number of sales the game would need to make to cut a profit in this day and age? They'd probably want the assurance of at least CLOSE to a million sales and fans on a MB do not always not equal fans who will buy the final product.

Is the number they were looking for unrealistic? Maybe. We don't know what that number is for sure so we can't say.

Now THAT, I will agree with you on. They certainly could have handled the issue better than they did and not ALL of the fan backlash is undeserved.

My concern is that people are blowing it out of proportion and assuming that Capcom did this out of legitimate malice towards their fanbase and not because of depressingly realistic monetary reasons.

For now, probably.

He'll take some time off, let people forget about him and then, one day, someone at Capcom will go, "Hey, remember Mega Man? How come we don't make those games anymore?"

And then someone else will go, "Let's try and bring him back." And we'll get some big new thing featuring the Blue Bomber that will be awesome.

... Or like Final Fight: Streetwise.

And if "silent majority" are the kind of people who enjoy crunching 50$ re-releases of fighting games every 9 months, then I don't want anything to do with such community at all.

Hey hey! Be fair! It's *$40*. Not $50. :P

Hey guys I was talking with a close friend of mine who's really good with business-related things about the cancellation of Mega Man Legends 3 and I think I know what Capcom is trying to do here. There's actually 2 ways Capcom can make money from Mega Man (The whole franchise itself): either they make a new game or they make a larger profit from it by selling off the rights. Somehow I have a feeling that Capcom knew we were gonna react like this. Why do you think they're alienating us? Simple: they know there are other companies who love this franchise. And with a big franchise like Mega Man, buying the rights will cost alot. But I will still support Mega Man Legends 3 brought back on no matter what. It just seems really obvious.
