Lost Galaxy's Japanese Fanbase

Yeaaahh, what I posted wasn't factual, it was an argument based on inference.

To really disprove this, we'd need Lost Galaxy's Japanese ratings, but good luck digging up figures for a show that old that ran in the wee hours before late-night anime and tokusatsu were a regular fixture of Japanese TV.

Even then, it's possible that a group of Japanese fans that saw both thought Lost Galaxy was better. This would probably be a small group but their opinions would still probably be of interest to American PR fans.

It always fascinates me that even though the internet is full of the widest variety of information in the world and it's all at your fingertips, there are still some things that seem to be impossible to find.

Indeed they did, though they didn't get "everyone" to voice their counterparts, the gender switched Yellow Rangers, Tommy as the White Ranger, Masked Rider, or Justin as the Blue Ranger being obvious ones. For example, Jason and Rocky's voice actors weren't Mochizuki Yuta (Geki/TyrannoRanger) or Wada Keiichi (Ryo/RyuuRanger) respectively though Kishi Yuji (Kyousuke/Red Racer) did voice T.J. in the Turbo and In Space dubs and Soga Machiko did re-voice Rita. Also there were apparently two MMPR dubs, one on TV Asahi and one for "Super Channel," so that probably complicates matters.

Here are a few examples, see if you can pick anyone out:

btw, have u guys seen Karan Ashley's photoshoot from this morning with her morpher? OMG IT'S FUCKING SICK. Man, Memories forever.

I would probably consider the TV Asahi one to be the right one. I've always wondered in depth about the Japanese Power Ranger fanbase. I know the movie was dubbed there:

And someone also subs Power Rangers on youtube.

What I've heard is that Japan's toy collecting community tends to be really big on Power Rangers, because it introduces new designs like Lord Zedd and the Titanium Ranger. This was several years ago, of course, and so take it as the rumor that it is.

I wouldn't be so sure, the other series such as Turbo, In Space, Lost Galaxy and Lightspeed Rescue (which was the very last one dubbed unless you count Tetsu Inada's narration for the Power Rangers section of the Boukenger 30th Anniversary DVD as a "dub") were aired on Super Channel, at least according to Wikipedia anyways.

Also I would say their is a "fanbase" of some sort, but seeing how I've only seen small pockets of it, it's difficult to say how many are "dedicated fans" and how many are just those curious about "Western Sentai."

There is some proof of it's existance though, for example:
There's this (outdated) clip of Power Ranger openings complete with mini summaries for each season.

As well as this "summary" of RPM:

But judging from the blogs I've seen, toy collecting does seem to be a major factor.

Aren't the Japanese Power Rangers toys mostly the orignal PR toys in packaging? Although I know there were some bizzare LSR toys marketed with the GoGoV packaging.

EDIT: I also can't seem to play any of of the nicovideo videos.

You sure put me in my place. Maybe instead of a simple two words that say nothing, you can give facts to prove me wrong?

It's plausible because of the fact that Kamen Rider Dragon Knight is tearing it up in Japan when Ryuki did next to nothing for their tastes

Has Dragon Knight pulled a rating over 2% yet? It is getting a ton of collector-oriented merch, but I'm not sure it's "tearing it up" in a broader sense.

Nope. It's not currently slated to run past 14 episode either.

The idea of using one unsubstantiated wish-fulfillment rumor to lend credence to another unsubstantiated wish-fulfillment rumor is just baffling to me.
