Kamen Rider V3 - Talkback

[hide]
I saw the riderman saga,he was cool but his rivarly with v3 only lasted 4 episodes.

Well, that's character development for you -- the show was winding down, so they couldn't stretch this over 20 episodes, and is all the more powerful for it, because it doesn't get tedious.

Likewise, Hakaida only appears in six episodes of KIKAIDA, but made a huge impact, not only on the series (its the best arc of the show), but also in the annals of tokusatsu villains. Hakaida is still considered the single greatest villain in the entire pantheon of tokusatsu characters.

SHH!! Don't tell me that!! :shakefist I haven't seen the last few episodes of Kikaida.

Yeah, but it wasn't that much of a rivarly to me, riderman began to trust v3 in 44,he only attacked v3 in 45 because he wanted those kids free and to prove his loyalty to destron.

Well, Riderman, despite V3's pleas, truly believed that Destron was trying to build a utopia for the human race... But, he was soon in for a shocking revelation! This entire arc was amazing -- seen in context.

I think the V3/Riderman dynamic was never really just a simple "rivalry" though.

Until the big moment in #51, the fact is that Yuuki honestly believes Destron and its cause are still fundamentally good. Just Marshal Armor and his lot are the bad guys. He is coming from the opposing side; to him, V3 is the bad guy. He's not much better than some anarchist trying to muck up the road to Destron's vision of perfect peace. It's only then in #51 that he comes around and realizes just how crummy the whole organization really is.

What throws a curve ball into the whole thing is that Yuuki is also a genuinely good guy. If he had just been some jerkface, they could have kept it up until he has a really crappy death at the hands of V3 (like one the comics actually did... ugh) . But instead, they have this thing called actual character development! Yuuki sees very early on the 1) Destron isn't as great as he's been told it is and 2) V3 isn't as bad as he's been told either.

In #43 & 44, they work together out of convenience despite some squabbling. Yuuki has no choice in #45, he either fights V3 or lets the kids die. He redeems himself in #46. In #47 Marshal Armor takes advantage of their shakey alliance but they manage to come out even strongest despite the whole EVIL!Yuuki plot. #48 sees their friendship tested again when Riderman takes the hit from V3 to save the Destron Leader, who he still feels loyalty too in spite of everything else. I don't think you can say they're ever *really* consistantly on the same side until the end of #48 with that scene on the beach.

Conversely, during this whole time V3's whole goal is to save Yuuki, to show him how rotten Destron really is, or at least to keep him from getting himself killed and/or getting in the way. Early on, it's more of the latter but over time, he changes too; he starts to respect Yuuki's contribution as Riderman and in some subtle ways, even begins to understand his viewpoint. Which is pretty incredibly considering up until that point his basic opinion on Destron and everyone in it is "What a bunch of bastards!"

So it's not really a rivalry like in later shows where the two opposing sides basically want to beat the crap out of each other and go out of their way to have a go at it whenever possible. If you want that, watch Kamen Rider X- it's got one of the best rivalries ever!

I liked the riderman arc, I just have a few minor complanis, like why the hell would have a control room in their rocket and the great leader of destron being his foster parent was a great twist but how could GLOD raise him when he spends his time hiding himself and founding organizations, plus the apperance of GLOD in 52 was hilarious(i know its not his true form),he looked like a haloween decoration, couldn't GLOD came up with a better false form.

Man, I loved Riderman Saga.

Yuki Joji = :buttrock:

Too bad, Takehisa Yamaguchi died in 1986. How did he die?

And I wonder why Ken (Destron Hunter #5) hasn't show up at all. So far, I've seen Ken like about 5 episodes.

Can't wait to see episode 51 and 52.

Trust me when I say that in the game, he looks 10 times better, and the final battle is 10 times better too

The audience didn't like Ken, I think it lowered the ratings or something, so they dropped thye character. Too bad, I actually liked him,he reminded me (and I'm sure everyone else) of Taki.
Turn up your volume to max when you watch those episodes

Takehisa died of Lung Cancer.

Dammit. He was so good. Great actor. So, did he smoke? Or non-smoke?

I was wondering, what did Tackle's actress die off?

You're serious? I never knew she died.

IIRC, Okada died of complications due to asthma, but that's just what a Japanese fan page reported. And she died WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY too young I might add. 27 is too early. :disappoin

As for Ken... oh man, he is literally a Poor Man's Taki, but I still like him and it's a nice offset to Kazami, who just literally throws himself at evil, to have a guy who freaks out at everything because hey, what normal person wouldn't?

[HIDE] And he also gets a major reinvention in Kamen Rider Spirits, as the commander of well, the S.P.I.R.I.T.S. team![/HIDE]
