And no, I don't think having good reputation would affect pride that much. It more like she was held back despite having top-notch skills and whatnot.
Hmm.... I don't think you have to be a weak sympathetic figure to be discriminated against, it could appear to be blunt as well.
Also it seems like they're dealing with sexism because women often get held back from obtaining higher positions then the men in workplaces, not just in north america but in asia as well. Sure its not as bad as before but it still happens every now and then, maybe I"ve seen it too many times, but that's just how I inperpret it.
