I was also under the impression that the Japanese didn't particularly care for the iPhone. Japan has its own insane mobile infrastructure so I can't imagine them having a lot of use for it.

The iPhone is getting popular enough over there that Namco Bandai is making Gundam games for it.

Granted, that's a pretty low bar to cross in some respects. Bandai made Gundam games for the Virtual Boy back in the day...

I dunno, Masahiro Inoue has/had an iPhoneor iPod Touch, he didn't say which, he mentioned playing some game with Gackt on it on his blog. I don't really have any way of knowing exactly how popular it is outside of idol blogs.
