Kamen Rider OOO - Talk Up!

- Ankh had some great lines this episode, but the actor playing him turned in by far the worst performance I've seen out of him.

I actually like the actor who portrays Ankh with the cocky attitude. Ankh grow on me more then Eiji. So far Kougami and Hina doesn't have much role yet and I felt Hina is weak on acting her part.

- Watching the fights in this episode really hit home that I just dislike OOOs's basic multi-form gimmick. It's not made very clear in the fights how changing medals confers a specific advantage. There's some rules I can infer (i.e., don't attack cat-guy with cat medals), but how the Cheetah legs were more helpful than another sort of attack at saving the fat guy is unclear.

What is not clear? the cheetah legs produce enough high speed damaged while immobilising the yummy to open the cat's gut so he can pull the guy out. If he uses the twin blades or the sword he cannot get that stomach open long enough before it closes again. And he is trying to save the guy, If not he can just uses scanning charge on any of his finishers and blasted the yummy to pieces.

I kinda like Ankh lounging up on high places since he is of the bird motif. he already sat on a tree, on various building ledges so maybe on the electric pole next?

If he uses the twin blades or the sword he cannot get that stomach open long enough before it closes again.

This is obviously what we're supposed to think, but like, why? Why does it have to be the cheetah legs? Could the tiger-claws speed-stab? Is speed the big attribute of the cat medals? Is it just something the cheetah legs happen to do? Like, cheetahs run fast, so they kick fast?

It's not even just a problem with that fight, anyway. Like, in the first episode, why does changing from the tiger to the mantis chest let him beat the monster? Why did he need the sword to fight the big thing in episode 2? I don't get any sense of logic from it, even implicit.

It feels like the outcomes of fights are just coming down to which medal or new thing is assigned to be shown off that episode. I can't really think of any pure narrative reason for how things go otherwise. There's not a sense they've worked out what the various powers are ahead of time.

Instead it feels more like they're just making up powers to go with an assigned slate of things to introduce. Which may well be how they're doing things, given the sheer glut of medals we already know about. (There's also surely more stuff to come, whether introduced through a second Rider or not.)

Ok guys, do you know these devices?

Early on the new combo of the show is usually used to defeat the motw.

Yeah, but typically the story tries to convey or imply some narrative, in-world reason why that particular power was used, especially when you deal with a multi-form Rider. So Kuuga gets his Air form when the flying asshole sniper Grongi shows up and Fang Joker appears when W needs to fight groups of enemies at a time.

OOO hasn't really been connecting its "new power debuts" to the fights or stories the same way. It's lead to weird stuff like OOO's first Rider Kick being basically unsuccessful. I guess you could argue that OOO doing stuff sort of randomly is part of the show's leitmotif, but I dunno.

The fun of a multi-form Rider is typically that you put him in a challenging situation and he adapts to it with his powers. The main exception to this I can think of offhand is Agito, where he just kinda got and used forms whenever. That was okay because Agito's narrative wasn't really driven by the content of the action sequences.

OOO's narrative is thus far completely reliant on the action sequences. You need a fight to happen for Core Medals to change hands or for anyone involved to get more Cell Medals. So it's kind of weird and dissatisfying, I think, that you see OOO use its main Rider's powers in arbitrary ways.

I'm thinking the same...

Till this point, I still don't know the difference(in term of usage) between Kamakiri and Tora Medal, they both used for slashing and that just it. I mean, Batta and Cheetah medal clearly have different usage, Batta for increasing jump power and Cheetah for increasing speed/run power...

Episode 4 was good, and I especially like how Eiji and Ankh's relationship is constantly being tested. I mean it's obviously clear that the one needs the other, but I don't get why Eiji doesn't just keep the medals he got like in this episode he just let's Ankh keep the Core Medals he just got. And why Ankh doesn't use the OOO Driver himself since he got himself a body of his own, but I guess that's he's heeding Mantis's warning.

And I kinda get why people are complaining with the nonsencical use of the Medals that Eiji get some not having a clear distinction between them. But I guess that's the mistake that they make when Toei does so many Medals, sometimes it's hard to make a clear distinction between their uses. But I guess when Eiji gets his "pure" forms that we'll get something more distinct like RaToraTah his speed, SaGoZo his strength, etc.

And I guess it clears up that Greed's have only three types of Medals with this episode cause Ankh isn't the only with two Medals but Kazali too. I' wondering where Eiji got the second Tiger or Cheetah Medal from cause it the promo they show two of each, and didn't Eiji only pull out two Core Medals?
