Kamen Rider OOO - Talk Up!

So let me get this straight: it's ok to say good things about a show made by a corporation that doesn't care about us.... but the moment we say something bad, we're in the wrong? You know, if you're going to use this "They don't care" argument, it appiles to both sides, not just people who don't like something.

I somehow doubt OOO is going to end up amongst the greatest Riders >>

Response in order:

Toei doesn't care if we say good or bad. However, saying good things about something from the information we have is acceptable because it's in no way insulting, even if the cooperation does not care. Even if we're praising them, they wouldn't care. We know that. However, here we aren't sending out negative emotions everywhere and saying things that isn't right. No ones saying "OMG OOO'S IS THE MOST AWESOME SERIES I'VE SEEN IN MY LIFE" are they? All they're saying is "So far so good!".

If you decide to say bad things however, you can't. Even if the cooperation doesn't give a rats ass, it's still not in your right to say something's bad. They can do whatever they want, however, nobody gets the right to say something's bad from what you see. You have to KNOW it throughout to be able to justify your reasons. Everyone in this case is going on with the "OMG THIS IS LIKE SO BAD, I'M JUST GONNA STOP WATCHING AFTER TWO EPISODES" instead of simply just saying "I don't like it as much, but I will TRY, EVEN if I don't like it, I'll give it a chance UNTIL it's over and it doesn't satisfy me. I'll hold my horses before anything else". That's where you're wrong. There's a difference between what people are saying.

No one's exaggerating that it's good, however, a lot of people is exaggerating that it's bad and that they're gonna drop it, which I see is VERY unfair to the series. Of course, the cooperation doesn't care or even knows we exist, but it's all about being the better guy here, even if your effort goes unnoticed, it's still the right thing to do.

Secondly, OOO's may not become one of the greatest, but we don't really know that do we? Let's say you're right that it doesn't become the greatest. So what? THe thing that matters is you gave something a try, it didn't work out. What's the good point in that besides wasting a year watching the show? Well, the good thing is that at least you know you gave it a shot.

Also, seriously, two episodes is never enough to judge a year-long series. Give it 8 or 10 at least.

I think two episodes is enough for a series to establish it's basic premise and identity. You get a sense of the shows style, tone, priorities, wether the characters are likable, how gimmicked or not gimmicked it is as well as a basic sense of if the show is something you really want to continue on with.

OK that's reasonable, but my argument is what was there was not bad, honestly tell me what was there that you thought was so bad.

Secondly, if you don't like it, don't watch it. If you wanna judge the ENTIRE series and not watch it because of two bad episodes, then hey, be my guest and not give the poor guy a chance. It's almost like you guys picked up the greatest books of all times and read the cover and the summary at the back and decided not to read it at all after reading the reviews online.
Or if you read the preview chapter and decided not to pick up the rest of the work.

You guys realize shows get cancelled without their full run right? The point of serialized media is to draw the audience in with every single episode. So yes, you can judge a show on a few episodes. Impress out of the gate. Most television production is done based on the idea of a pilot episode. You get one episode to prove that you're worth a full show.

In books:
Your opening chapter must first and foremost immediately capture your reader's interest. In particular, if you plan on sending your novel to a publisher or agent, bear in mind that if your first paragraph isn't compelling they may not bother to read on!

The first chapter is your opportunity to grab the reader's attention. Often, people decide to purchase a book or put it back after only a paragraph or two. Increase your odds of success by starting with a strong opening that hooks the reader and makes them want to find out more.

The first page of a script often determines if the second page will ever get read.

It's normal. Most media production lives or dies on the first impression.

The only way you can justify if somethings bad or not is if you've seen the entire thing. Do that and the power to bitch about it is yours. If not, you can't just go around saying things.
Also untrue. I didn't need to watch the entirety of Mega Shark vs Giant Octopus (though I did) to know the whole thing was bad. Generally, production foibles you find in the beginning carry until the end.

What's the worst movie review you can get?

'It was so bad I left the theatre.'

In addition, those you guys are bitching at actually found merit in Double. Based on the show itself.

Matt's view of the first episode of Double:

OKay finally got to see the first episode.

The Good:

The opening bit was awesome and it was cool that they give you a little bit of origin story right before the OP even starts. The OP is really not the kind of thing I tend to look for in Rider OP's but I find I am enjoying it anyways.

I'm actually digging the whole detective vibe of the show. Shotaro was pretty likable off the bat. I kind of expected to hate Phillip but so far I haven't put off by him other than is aggressively feminized appearance. I'm actually interested in finding out what his deal is. He seems sort of like a kid with autism but who is also a walking Wikipedia.

Yay for cops! I've kind of missed the police being a part of things in a Rider show.

I was not expecting the angle they took where Phillip doesn't actually fusion-ha with Shotaro but rather sort of lends his spirit ...or maybe downoads it would be more accurate.

I really liked the whole concept of the monster powers as kind of a drug metaphor what with the the guy basically mainlining the Gaia Memory to become Magma. Excellent henshin effects on that one. I also thought it was interesting that Double's finisher destroys the monster which destroys the Gaia Memory but it doesn't destroy the user.

Double's suit design is one of the best in a long time. While I think the belt looks rather clunky the rest of suit is slick and the scarf is an excellent touch. I like how the different form powers are limited to the one side of the body. I think that's something that helped Luna for come off less silly than it might have ended up being.

..I also just really liked how W begins his fight with Magma using nothing but kicks. That **** was sweet.

The Bad:

Akiko. Really, the next time she tries to hit Shotaro with that shoe I kinda wish he'd shove it her mouth. Is the shoe thing going to be her gimmick the way Natsumi had the nerve pinch? So the new thing is for the girl to physically abuse the male lead? So far IMO she's the weakest and most annoying link. I'm hoping maybe she'll get less annoying once she's up to speed on what's going on.

The WTF?:

W splitting in half during his Rider Kick is a really strange effect. I'm stlll not sure if I love it or hate it.

Overall a really good first episode and an interesting start to the series. This may be an early call on my part but I feel like that if they have to do a Kamen Rider show with a comedy bent to it, I can much sooner get into how this show does that than I can the way Den-O does it. Obviously the fact the Rider IMO looks like a Rider doesn't hurt either.

Black Fang's view.

Not a bad start. Right now I only have two issues:

1) This cast is way too young for a detective show. Ren Kiriyama and Masaki Suda are hardly convincing as these skilled investigators. (I think, in W's case, it may stem from Sanjo's manga speciality. I'm no expert, but such things I don't think are too unfamiliar in that genre) The regular cops were played by far more appropriate actors. Why can't they get more people like that to play heroes? Someone should get Hibiki's casting director back, that person knew what he was doing.

2) I think this show would work a lot better were it not part of the Rider franchise, but it's own thing. Toei used to make lots of superhero shows. Now all they do is Sentai and Rider. And while Sentai sems more or less stable in its ideas, as I said before, every wild idea that Toei comes up with gets dumped into Rider, and the writers are told "make a show out of this". Toei should start taking chances again and diversify its toku pool.

So why not accept that they may not like this show, on its own merits? I enjoyed it, but that's in sort of the Super Troopers vein. It's quite retarded, so I find it funny. They don't prefer something like that in their Rider shows, and they have a right to that opinion.

The scanner/belt...

I actually had a question for that since Ooz, didn't actually scan the sword after he placed the cell medals.

I saw him hit the button for the sword when was slicing the GIANT ANT in half.
I think two episodes is enough for a series to establish it's basic premise and identity. I can see how that's true but I feel if I had done that with a lot of toku or heck, even anime, I would either have instantly liked them or hated them.

For example, the first two episodes of "Basquash" are really, really good but the show then goes completely off track from those episodes and becomes a trainwreck. In contrast, Digimon Adventure starts off really generic and ugly, but then blossoms into a fantastic series (though, Digimon has always needed like 15 episodes to get really good). Even Gekiranger wasn't really my favorite in the beginning before I thought it became amazing.

Even still, I just think 2 episodes is too little.
