Re: Eiji vs. Ryoutarou
Like I said before, I love Den-O, I love Ryoutarou, I jump into Den-O defense mode all the time.
But Eiji just seems more believable to me as a person. I've seen a lot more people with Eiji's outlook on life (and even been there myself!). As in, "just get through life because having any more ambition is too hard/just isn't worth it/will bite you back in the end." It's more believable that people would go through that phase than Ryoutarou, a person whose personality and lifestyle gimmick is so extreme that he often looks like a caricature. Den-O ep. 1 really oversold his bad-luck shyness thing.
That's all I meant by "done right." The two seem similar, but you can look at Eiji and have a better chance of going, "oh yeah, I understand what he's like." The fact that you can see he still has a conscience, idealistic values, and a sense of justice--however dimwitted--underneath only endears him further. Hell, I wish I'd been given a Rider belt at that stage in my life.
