Kamen Rider Kiva - Final Thoughts for the year and look back

This show was one of the biggest disappointments for 2008 that it almost destroyed my love for Kamen Rider. The only reason why I still love KR is because someone finally uploaded the entire Kuuga series on Veoh :buttrock: and I finally got a chance to watch it (and if you haven't seen this show yet, watch it right now because it truly defines what a 'Kamen Rider' show should look and feel like!!!)

Anyways the reason for my disappointment for this show is because
-it pretty much uses ideas from previous rider shows:
For example Kiva's forms are rip-off's Kuuga's forms. Same colors, same type of abilities, etc.
Castle Doran= Denliner, Bron Booster=Gouram, Arms Monsters=Imagins.

-Ryoutarou 2.0's, I mean, Wataru's character type does not fit the role of the main hero because Kiva has a dark look to it that the wimpy character type just doesn't look right.

Whoa! This looks like a gathering of Kiva haters.... !

I actually really enjoyed Kiva all the way through. There were very few episodes that I didn't enjoy at some level, even if other people weren't too thrilled with it. I liked 2008 better than 1986 most of the time, too. Watching Wataru mature throughout the series was really the highlight, for me.

And the finale may have been wacky, but I liked it! Can't wait to see it subbed!

Kiva took a few episodes to warm up but once but about episode 7-8 I was hooked and I've loved it ever since.

It was great to finally see a KR series that actually felt like it had a well-planned out story from the get-go. Having seen only Kabuto, which was all over the place, and Den-O, which was just a series of often boring occurences until Kai's random appearance, it was refreshing. And it was helped by having such a high proportion of 'normal' and likeable characters and minimal rider vs. rider stupidity.

i feel that it's really not fair to compare Kiva with Den-o..

what's den-o..? Gathering of gay partners..

and Wataru is never like Ryotarou in anyway.. Wataru is brave.. he's just shy.. he have the guts to stand and fight with the Fangire.. unlike Ryotarou.. do nothing but cry and cry like a sissy..

he's just a rather negative Tsugami Shoichi.. he grew to become a man.. a hero.. a king.. one who is fit to be kiva.. he don't just shed tears just because imajin left him..

Most importantly.. Kiva don't really need to rely on his monster to possess him.. only occassionally.. while Den-o..? Without imajin.. Ryotarou is just a piece of ****..

Like what Black fang said.. Kiva has it's flaw.. i agree.. a few introduction of good characters but was ended too fast.. and also over-reliance of Emperor form..

And most importantly.. the designs.. from monsters to the riders.. to kiva and it's form.. i think it owns all.. if you compare with Agito or Kuuga.. ya.. frankly.. it still lacks a little.. but compare to other kamen rider series over the yrs.. it's definitely the best..

we don't need bra visors to act like kamen rider..

It's definitely one of the best ones in Heisei KR history.. joining the list of Kuuga and Agito.. IMO..

Not to mention the ending rocks big time.. what's Den-o..?

As for go-onger.. Gekiranger had set a massive standard.. Go-onger couldn't hit that standard at all.. not a crap show.. but not my taste..

Ellax, remember this about your thoughts about the series, not another den-o bashing thread, so please, write what you found good and bad about Kiva, and not bash previous shows, just because you didn't like it, others might have.

Maybe Shizuka? haha

I really enjoyed the finale, hate to see it end, but there's also so much to look forward to in the next series. A series that will bring back most of everyone's favorites from the past.

Also, I don't know know about you guys, but I'm really looking forward to a spin-off following the Adventures of Wataru and his future son Masao against the NEOfangire!
:buttrock:

I felt the ending was alright for the series. I loved how Wataru just took the mantle of king, (Did he win in the final fight to become king?) I can't hate on Wataru at all since he did grow on me as a character who just naturally became stronger through every he went through in his life. Otoya is now my favorite Kamen Rider because he was just so different. Who'd a though that Toei would give a violin totting pimp a rider suit?

Now the series itself as a whole was just a let down, and I think it's biggest crutch was Toei's abuse of time travel. I don't get why it has to be repeatedly done. It's the third season in a row which time travel swoops in and saves the day. They didn't abuse it as much when they started of in Kabuto, and Den O's premise was kind of worked, (yet there was way to much time spent in that universe). But I felt it wasn't need in Kiva, and that the Wataru and Nago could have been able overcome anything they faced without it. Who the hell installed that time door in Castle Doran anyway?
