Kamen Rider Gaim Ep 30 - "The Red and Blue Kikaider"

The episode was fine, it was enjoyable and manages to promote Kikaider well enough.

That said though, it's kind of a bummer that this has to take up an episode slot for the people that don't really care about the new Kikaider film. Especially considering that the previous episode left on a HUGE cliffhanger, having this episode that doesn't really relate to anything kinda just grinds the story pacing to a complete halt.

Ryoma was asked by a colleague to test out Hakaider. To see what are his strengths & weaknesses. If he killed Kouta, that would just be a bonus.

The real question would be, WHY would he put his OWN brain inside the death machine. I mean, I found his self prep hilarious, but still, why did he think that was a good idea? Hell, why do you need to put a human brain inside an ANDROID, something that should be able to operate itself. Is this something to do with Hakaider's backstory that I'm not aware of, or does it make as much sense to Kikaider fans?

Hakaider always needed a human brain to make him functional. That was established in the Kikaider franchise. As for Ryoma putting his own brain in Hakaider, that just shows how demented he really is.

If Hakaider needs a human brain to run, its a cyborg, not an android. And maybe Ryoma already has brain damaged before he did the brain operation.

Hakaider works with a human brain on the driving seat, it's not an actual autonomous android like Kikaider. Also, Ryoma does want to achieve greater power and surpass humanity, that's why he's so interested in Helheim in the first place. Becoming a cyborg could be an alternative answer to that, although it obviously didn't work in this case.

Alright, although... I can't tell if I should be disturbed or impressed that Ryouma committed brain transplant surgery on HIMSELF.

oh god, ryouma in this episode..... is he retarded to insert his brain into a android like that? couldn't he insert a test subject in there and not himself in risk of destroying his livelihood in the name of science? why did he want to be a android in the first place? to destroy kouta? HE IS ALREADY A KAMEN RIDER!, why did he NEED to risk a chance of brain damage to see if a fucking robot works or not? in fact, why didn't he try to power up Hakaider in the first place? it could possibly still work like brand new, and if it could he could get the robot to kill kouta itself with his command!

oh god my brain hurts, i might need to insert my brain into a robot to kill this headache....

Dude you just don't understand science okay? Just go home.

Eh, this was a good standalone episode. Was rushed, but overall was a fun watch. Wish it didn't halt the story's pacing but it was a nice break from all the complications in the main plot.

Really liked Jiro and Kouta's relationship and how Kouta tells him that he should use his power to save others. It's very in character, and the friendship between the two is definitely fun to watch.

Ryoma becoming Hakaider was honestly completely unexpected but it was kind of cool. Overall, awesome action (out of suit was great) and cool to see Kikaider before we can watch the REBOOT movie. Which looks awesome by the way, cannot wait!

Also the symbolism in this episode was not subtle in the slightest.

I didn't enjoy this episode as much as some did: The Kikaider actor was more wooden than robotic. The campy robotic movement, sound effects and voice processing were more annoying than atmospheric. Their whole take on Kikaider robot-not-a-human set the new reboot up as a one-joke character and made me slightly less inclined to watch the Reboot movie.

The writers missed the key point of the old Kikaider was that he's a flawed creation who must struggle to keep himself from becoming a soulless killing machine, like Hakkaider, who are essentially soulless even though it has a human brain.

Ryouma as Hakkaider was great though. Enough has been said above. I hope he keeps his head bandages on to start episode 31.
