They cancelled it by the end of the year because the contract was up. It was supposed to air throughout the entire 2009 season, but apparently it was 2 episodes too long (though they could've easily cut out the first two clip shows if that was the case).

As a result, the last two were streamed exclusively on the 4Kids website.

I love Dragon Knight as much as you guys, but we gotta let this thread die sometime...

I have not seen this series yet, even though I'm in the US. Was it canceled because of the low ratings or was it because the series ended?

Well if you watch CW4Kids (or Toonzai or whatever the **** it's called) every Saturday, you'll notice that every year starts off with a brand new season with new shows or a new season of old shows. Dragon Knight was scheduled to air all 40 episodes throughout the entire 2009 season, as stated in an article back in 2008 (can't seem to find it) but apparently, it was 2 episodes too long for them, so they streamed the last two episodes online by the end of December.

Dragon Knight premiered on the first Saturday of January and got cancelled by the last Saturday of December. See what I mean?

I think the ratings (or the marketing in general) affected future seasons rather than the cancellation. Otherwise, it would've been cancelled in the MIDDLE of the series like in Germany.

And the lack of DVDs are to the fact that there was no distribution rights.
