I just watched the director's cut of Gaia Memories of Fate.
What's with the slightly creepy post credit ending with Shroud "masking up"? Was Maria Shroud after all? Leading a double life? That adds a bit more drama to the whole thing. Perhaps Shroud is some kind of "Immortal" herself?

[hide] she be a NEVER too? Considering that she invented all these bio technology, it will be easy as pie to become one herself too. Add that Shroud was badly hurt by Terror's powers, the puzzle kinda fits. Perhaps Shroud was at the edge of death and made herself a NEVER. There's nothing that indicates that the Sonozaki only have 3 children, though there's also nothing that indicates that the Sonozaki had another kid. Not to mention Katsumi didn't appear at the end of episode 49 with everyone else, his name is also different, hmm. Anyone got any idea on this one?[/hide]
I'm curious, but did anyone cried watching the movie? The lyrics of the ending song did it for me, perhaps I'm a bit emotional, but I think the song perfectly fits Katsumi, andi t's relate-able, generally it's a song about losing your way somewhere on your journey of life. It'd been a while since I'd liked a japanese song so much. I like Katsumi, I will enjoy watching him in the Eternal movie, which I don't want to be spoilered on. At the very least we know that he's conscious of his sins when he tells W that "isn't it too late for me to count my sins now?!"

I think it's a definite possibility that Maria herself became a NEVER, but I also agree with Oblivion, the scene might as well just be a reminder of Shroud's existence, though if it is it seems awfully pointless. I guess we'll know soon when we find out if they make more Double movies or not.
