Kamen Rider Decade - Episode 53 "The Endless Story"

IIRC the blurbs released about the memories/driver in magazines etc (which is admittedly a secondary source) said that the memories used by the Riders in the show are no different to the other memories, and if you used them in one of those USB port tattoo things it would turn you into a monster. The high-ups at museum (Terror, Taboo, Nazca, Claydoll) have what you might deem to be 'first generation' drivers that filter out some of the effects on their minds. The Double Driver has a much better filter, but in the process only gets 50% of the power out of each memory (hence why it uses two). A Maximum Drive basically removes the filter, allowing them to use their memory's full power for a short time at full strength.

I think the point is that the power source for Double and the monsters is the same. You could argue it doesn't apply to Agito in any way, but as a generalisation it works, and I think they were trying to call back to that basic point right from the original series that Riders tend to have the same power source as the bad guys, only they chose to use it for good instead of evil.

However we know there's a difference. During the Heaven's Tornado arc when Cockroach steals some of their memories he reports to Kirihiko and explains he can't use Double's memories with his memory port.

But this is a load of rubbish. GaiaMemories are not inherently evil. The difference between the Shroud versions and the Museum versions is merely in execution, and it is shown very plainly that people are being chosen BECAUSE they are unstable, in order to evolve the memories and utilize their negative emotions.

The Gaia Memories made by the museum are inherently evil. They invariably corrupt the users if they use them directly.

The only way to avoid that is using Drivers that filter them - or deliberately expel the extra power (like the Yesterday Dopant did). If the user is unstable in the first place, the corruption and maybe evolution of the Gaia Memories happens faster, but it'll still happen as long as they aren't using a Driver or using an ability to replace what a driver would do, and those things came later exactly to solve those issues.

The "purified" ones made by Shroud were used in the A to Z movie to 'corrupt' normal humans as well, so even drawing a comparison between the two isn't proper.

The T2 memories are similar design-wise to Shroud's purified memories, but they aren't the same, and there are still some visible design differences.

Anyway, rewatch the Cockroach Dopant episodes. Shroud's memories can't be used without a driver. Cockroach says that he attempted to use the memory he had stolen with the standard tattoo port, and they didn't work.

If humans can't handle the power and go mad...well that's a problem more with humans than the power, isn't it?

What about Core? It was basically a Gaia Memory itself speaking, and it was pure evil in spite of using the Kamen Riders' memories.

Cosmic energy also ends up kind of similar. The only life forms originated from Cosmic energy that we've seen, the new Kyodain, ended up evil too as soon as they received Cosmic Energy and gained "life". "The great will of space has chosen us mechanical life-forms".

As for this, you're right. But it doesn't make any difference with regards to Amadam's mistaken statement about it. The two powers are of similar source, but diametrically opposed. Think angels and devils. Agito = White guardian, Unknown = Black guardian. I.E. Agito is NOT a failed Unknown.

They're the powers of two twin overlords, and the power of Agito is still shown to have negative consequences to most people who obtained it. Many people hurt others and killed themselves, and even Shouichi initially couldn't remember what he did and behaved nothing like himself while transformed, like attacking G3.

It's close enough if they're trying to draw a consistent theme throughout the franchise. An attempt to keep a consistent theme was also likely the reason Decade added that concept to Hibiki in the first place, since it was the only one with absolutely no connection to that idea.

said that the memories used by the Riders in the show are no different to the other memories, and if you used them in one of those USB port tattoo things it would turn you into a monster.
The "purified" memories can still theoretically corrupt the user if they were used directly without a driver. W's specs mention part of his suit/body that are there to eliminate the excess power that would corrupt a standard Dopant. However, they can't actually be used like that. The purified memories just won't work without a Driver.

Wizard 53:

- Really? That's the way Gaim is introduced? A rehash of Fourze crash-landing into OOO's movie, random appearance and then disappears just as randomly? How is that supposed to attract an audience? Why can't Rider meetings just be played straight?

- I'm confused: is this world where dead monsters go, or is this a Decade-style AU where dead monsters just happen to go to? Or are there two worlds, one with the monsters and another with the humans who become monsters?

- The Beast Ring makes you disappear? Why?

- Are the Riders summoned by the Rings the real Riders or just duplicates? Because it seems like they'll do the bidding of whoever summons them.

- Why is Alternative Rider paired up with random monsters?

- In light of the Riders being voiced by VAs, it would be fun to think of them as older versions of the characters rather than as they are now. Fourze sounds like an old man: maybe it's Gentaro years into the future. :P

- Why did the Rings disappear? And why do the others Riders teleport away but Tsukasa and Haruto don't? And what happened to Nitou?

I'm not supposed to think too much about this, am I? That's par for the course with anything Decade-related, right?

The Rings only summoned the Riders, it didn't controlled them. As Amadam found out when he tried to order the 13 Riders to kill Haruto. Since they told him the reason why it appered that they obey the AR Haruto is that they chose to protect him & AR Koyomi.

It seems to be both. It's a Decade-style AU, but inside a magic stone, which attracts the soul of dead monsters, which is why people transform into those monsters eventually.

- The Beast Ring makes you disappear? Why?

That wasn't the Beast Ring itself, it was the Falco and Dolphi rings (for the Beast mantles). Remember, they're more powerful for Wizard than Beast.

Alternative is considered a monster, not a Rider. The same happened during Decade's Nega World...

And what happened to Nitou?

He was just sent back to his time and world. It was explicitly told by the writer on twitter, but that effect they used there seemed pretty different from how a death would look like anyway.

But why are people in there to begin with? Is the stone a portal to another universe where the dead monsters get dumped to? What makes people turn into monsters in the first place? Is it that the people became monsters, got released into the other worlds and then came back here upon death?

That makes no sense.

There's a separate universe inside the stone itself somehow. It's clearly different from Decade's standard AUs since it's even possible to look at the standard Earth from it.

What makes people turn into monsters in the first place? Is it that the people became monsters, got released into the other worlds and then came back here upon death?

Well, the reason behind people turning into monsters isn't explained. Presumably, it's the souls of the monsters going to that place, especially considering how Amadam mimics several past villains in spite of not even being a native of that world, but it's not directly confirmed, that's just an assumption. The characters themselves weren't even sure if leaving the world would really stop them from transforming (see the last conversation before Haruto leaves the Remnants in episode 52), although the kids wanted to believe in that.

Basically the monsters get reborn as human in that alternate world but somehow turn back into monsters (because the seal is imperfect or something?). Maybe everyone there used to be a monster but not everyone remembers their past life? Think of it as a weird bhuddist reincarnation wheel thing.

Almost 2 years later and I finally know where I recognized Haruto from xD

You should watch Angie's and my review of Gantz on youtube, we mention it.

I'll admit I couldn't figure out why he was familiar until I looked him up, though.
