The episode was not down on CarRanger. The episode was celebrating what CarRanger always did best: Being lovably insane in the funniest ways and yet still kicking ass as you would want a Sentai to do.

CarRanger is for Sentai what The Tick is for superheroes and this episode got that.

Goseiger covers were WAY better.

I like it. The only Sentai covers I'm not fond of are some of the older ones where it's just a helmet shot and some random pics on the side. Feel like a rush jobs. Plus, for me at least, the Gokaiger cover has one important advantage...it'll be on Blu-Rays. That's important to me, because the Gokaiger episodes should look great in HD. Also, that pic is just awesome by itself. :castlerock:

Eh, I think it's more that the episode was trying to get in everything funny it could do with the premise in one episode. Actual Carranger would do a lot of stuff similar to this, but would spread it out over more episodes 'cause they knew they had to fill up a year's worth of episodes.

It's sort of like how Kyosuke's personality is a bit exaggerated in Ohranger vs. Carranger, as opposed to how the series handled him. It's clearly to make sure that every possible comedic possibility of Carranger's style clashing with Ohranger's is explored before the movie is over.

I saw both the Gokai episode and the Carranger vs. Ohranger. I also saw a few episodes of Carranger (I know, not the best way to judge a series) and I can say the statement above is right, to a point. The Carranger episodes weren't that silly, but they were close. Also, to defend the Gokaiger episode and Ohranger team-up (both I enjoyed) were special cases. One was a tribute episode and was meant to showcase what made Carranger unique. The other was a team-up with a serious team who were only appearing for that movie. The chance to get humor from mixing the serious team with the goofy team was only good for that movie, so the film makers had to make it count.

Fans' opinions can vary, but I thought both worked. The Gokaiger episode worked to show little kids why Carranger was a special show and may inspire them to watch the show, and Carranger vs. Ohranger did great in comparing and contrasting the two teams. And, most importantly...both were funny as hell :laugh: and fun to watch.

I chuckled when Kyosuke did the flying kick during the CarRanger roll call at the last part of the episode, cause he looked like he nearly fell down.

And then after the kick, he looked around which looks like he's looking at the director whether the take is ok or not.

Then he goes around celebrating.

...wow, man. That really was as close to a Carranger Episode 49 as we're gonna get. Used the same cheesy effects, the same structure showcasing the villains before and after the fight (Zealousto got launched back to the space base for a final gag after being defeated--YES), remixed the Zonnette/Red Racer love plot, lampshaded the show's trends to date, then lampshaded the lampshading, plenty of CR fanservice, Kyosuke was perfectly in character down to justifying the whole "human shield" thing... and GOKAI RACING SLASH OMG this is the best episode

The Gokaiger episode was abut how half a year of Carranger went. Started out full comedy, then it raised the stakes a bit and the ratio became more balanced between comedy and action. It all stayed lighthearted though. Even the "serious" episodes were only serious to a point.

The Carrangers' "true power," btw... look at the smiling faces of all those kids, and there you go. Those guys are cool and motivational and even trustworthy in spite of everything. The show gets this, but the Gokaigers don't yet, and I'd love to see the show call back to it later on.

(Then again, if Gokaiger were really to follow in Carranger's footsteps, ep. 50 would have them beat the Zangyack by prompting the entire Earth to defend itself via making six million people do all the sentai groups' powerposes in sequence. )

Highest recommendation.

Serious team?
You should have seen OhGreen and OhBlue falling down and hugging each other in fear when Nekomaru greeted the Ohranger at the end of Oh VS kaku
